South Atlantic tropical activity in 2014?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:54 pm

Maybe that basin has some tropical activity considering how warm are the waters down there. Some models are hinting at some type of development off Brazil.

I do my best to keep Talking Tropics forum relatively active but I know that the interest to look at the tropics is low at this time. But as always occurs every year, around early to mid April things start to pick up here. Let's see if something develops in the South Atlantic that can add more interest here than usual before early April.

Subtropical Depression named by Brazilian authorities.

AFOREMENTIONED UPPER LOW IN BRASIL HAS INDUCED A LOW-LEVEL TROUGH
THAT HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A SUBTROPICAL DEPRESSION BY THE
BRAZILIAN AUTHORITIES. THIS SYSTEM WILL LIKELY REMAIN OFFSHORE AND
BE A CONCERN MAINLY FOR NAVIGATION PURPOSES.
SUBTROPICAL DEPRESSION WITH ESTIMATED PRESSURE 1008 AT 28S 36W, WITH WIND FORCE 6/7 AFFECTING 200 AROUND CENTER AND MOVING TO SW/S AT 10-15.

SYSTEM WITH LOW POTENTIAL OF INTENSIFICATION

ESTIMATED POSITION AT 30S 37W AT 211200

I cannot find any floaters for this system. Do you think another agency will classify it and bring up a floater? Thanks. :)

I don't think SSD will have a floater for it as it looks like it will not do anything more than what it is now. Here is a image from Metsat.

Thank you cycloneye! :D

Still, it's impressive because it's our first here since 2011.

Interesting disturbance off the NE tip of Brazil. Let's see if it persists for a while or it vanishes rapidly. Saved loop.

Out of curiosity, how do you get the S America model maps from tropical tidbits?
