I won't be shocked if they keep it at 135 knts, but I think there's chance they declare it 140 knts.

Wouldn't this make Amanda very close (if not soon) to tie or beating ITA for the strongest cyclone in 2014 to date? ITA peaked at 135kts and 930mbar

Technically it peaked at 115 knts 10 min, which is around 130 knts 1 min.

Save of the IR loop. I really like looking at the unenhanced for these powerful storms. From this view it looks like it's strengthening again.

That's happened before. Last time was 2001 that I can think of. Also, 1983 and 1992 it happened.

It might start upwelling cold water soon, as it is nearly stationary and is of this intensity. Personally, I think Amanda has peaked, but very impressive nonetheless.

Oceanic heat is warm due to the warm subsurface pool, so that's less of an issue. It's got another day left, then the party is over. This will fall FAST.

Another fact: This is stronger than any storm in the NHEM since Hiayan.

If the pressure of 932 is correct, it would have deepened 57 mbar in 18 hours. Probs some EPAC record. I'll research later.

Is that explosive intensification?

I'd say yes, but that's not a meteorological term any longer. But in my book, it is.

Ita had a slightly lower pressure. But anyway, this has a chance to be stronger than that, even by the winds.
