Actually the Euro was the Eastern outlier for most of this storms life... The GFS and..... dare I say it.... HWRF had this path dialed in about 48 hours ago.

I never trust the GFS, because I have seen it Out to lunch on so many big Coastal storm in the NE (where I now live) so it's tuff to shake that for me. I just heard Norcross saying Euro seems to have nailed what's going on now....and Euro has it strengthening here (12z euro) .

looks like first squalls will be hitting S part of Delmarva in the next hour

81 mph wind gusts at Hatteras Coast Guard Station, starting to get hit with Eyewall.

I believe the general rule of thumb is to subtract 1mb for every 10kts of surface wind (since the surface wind indicates the drop slightly missed the center.)

OK. So then the pressure is really more like 974-973... So it is a stronger Cat 2? Is there a table or equation that correlates mb pressure and windspeed? I just want to try to understand...

There is a strong correlation between pressure and wind speed, but it is not possible to exactly calculate one from the other, as many other factors come into play. In general though, a lower pressure indicates a stronger storm (and thus increased wind speed.)

He is probably safer in Waves. The island has been washed across just north of Rodanthe, and a number of homes lost there. It appears he is near a strong structure where he is. The ocean has taken a number of homes in Rodanthe.
