Mayport FL. The navy is preparing to leave port, you will have to take it from there.

Where will they go? Way South seems to be the only option at this point!

They will head 90 degrees away (right angle) from the projected path. This allows for the quickest and easiest way to avoid a hit.

Think about a tornado coming towards you. You want to go 90 degrees (right angle) away from the projected path. This gives you the largest distance away from an approaching system, in a short amount of time.

I would hope they follow the path of least resistance.. or there will be some nasty odors down below.

Depending on the track--the Navy in Norfolk could also be taking off later in the week!

They list 22 ships that call the port home. How many are there now? There seems to be some ships/subs missing from the carrier group. Would they not be based out of Mayport also? Not sure why they would empty the port if it is going to hit the NC or farther north area though. I guess just to be safe but wouldn't they have to empty a good part of the seaboard as well?

I lived ther for 20 years, they send them out typically in 90 degree angles of the projected path as another poster said. Some that can not get underway that fast will have the hulls filled with water to drop them in the water level for less slamming against the piers.
