#1 Postby AussieMark » Sun Sep 14, 2003 12:37 am

Has anyone seen Isabel from Satellite images she looks more like a category 3 than a strong category 4 or weak category 5

That still looks like a solid storm to me. She'll be moving over warmer waters soon, so I would expect her to maintain cat 4 intensity for a while. The key will be how much shear she encounters on her northward trek.

Isabel is still a very formidable hurricane even though it's been traversing cooler waters all evening that were upwelled by hurricane Fabian.....IMO 120-125 kts and 935 mb; and the sst's ahead of the hurricane are even warmer than yesterday....so I won't be surprised if Isabel reaches 145 kts within the next 24 hours.

What i mean't the satellite hides its power to a degree as currently on Satellite it looks similar to Erin 2001 - Category 3

As it is not tightly wrapped like most Cat 4/5 hurricanes are.

Keep in mind it's hard to delineate intensity at this point by sat pics. ISabel's eye is huge, but recon still found winds of 192mph this afternoon. Last night she looked pretty bad, but this is all part of the reintensification part. She will be traveling over warmer waters, so I think she'll stay in the Cat 4 range on her NW trek towards the NC coastline/Mid-Atlantic.

Do u think no matter where she strikes she will be a minimal category 3 at the weakest.
