Cold cloud tops return

#1 Postby vortex100 » Sun Sep 14, 2003 3:23 am

The cold cloud tops have now returned around the eye. Excellent outflow in all directions and warmer SST's head indicate Isabel may strengthen even more today. THE GFS, ECMWF and UKMET indicate a path through Cape Hatteras and into the Delmarva peninsula. The Canadian Global and GFDL models are slightly further east indicating a path into New Jersey and southeastern New York. THE GFDL is once again underestimating the intensity of this storm and it's ability to maintain it's intensity. Although shearing with the incoming trough will likely reduce intensity some before landfall, forward momentum through the cold waters north of Cape Hatteras will likely allow this storm to remain at level 4, or a least level 3, status when it strikes the mid-Atlantic coast.
