Intense hurricanes create their own environment?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Intense hurricanes create their own environment?

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Sun Sep 14, 2003 4:40 pm

We have heard time and time again and even with Hurricane Fabian and now with Hurricane Isabel, that intense tropical cyclones "can easily" create their own environment and move erratically even when moving over 5 mph.

So, question is... Why isn't hurricane Isabel, a major, very rare hurricane not creating 'her' own environment?

The whole reason for the issue of intense hurricanes creating their own environment takes into account other features. Otherwise, there wouldn't be such an issue with such storms.

Storms of this strength are a lot more difficult to move, but as you said, it does not matter how strong it gets it still will be influenced by external factors. It does however make one watch outflow shred an ULL to bits while moving west. That was impressive.

SHe is to some extent. Remember though...even the biggest baddest hurricane around will go where the longwave says to go. Large Cat 5's can dodge minor shortwave trofs...not major ones. THere is only so much energy to produce.

The trough off the United States east coast looks like a minor one.
