Pattern Lock

As many have mentioned it looks like we have been locked into a pattern since 2009 of having a concentration of storms tracking either OTS(Includes tracks over Bermuda and Bahamas) or BOC. The CONUS have been very fortunate. So far 2014 is starting out in the same manner with OTS, Bahamas and BOC(with possible Dolly). When will it change will be the big question? Here is some graphics.

I found the 5 year period from 1991-1996 to be similar if you take Andrew out of the equation of course.

Okay guys, just because I want to BE a meteorologist, want to go to school for meteorology, DOES NOT MAKE ME A METEOROLOGIST. Anything I say about tropical weather is either me learning something new, or is just an opinion and nothing more than that. I can almost guarantee you that I will be wrong about pretty much everything.

Pattern since Cristobal and over the next couple of weeks at least could be of a less east coast trough and more mid level ridging from the Bermuda ridge, too early yet to call for victory ;)

Of course you need storms to form and survive to be able to take advantage of that setup. Fortunately we haven't seen any do so since the 2008 hurricane season.
