Well.I had to make it 24 hours earlier as Enviromental Canada has begun to release warnings.

Question concerning the pressures being high for this intensity: are the surrounding pressures higher than normal or is it due to the small size?

971mb is the highest pressure I've seen for an intensifying major hurricane in a while

The deep layer ridge has a lot to do with Gonzalo's robust pressure gradient and higher winds. For example, surface observations today in Bermuda have ranged been between 1025 to 1023mb. With higher background surface pressures over the western Atlantic, an intensifying compact cyclone such as Gonzalo could attain wind speeds above what is typical for that pressure range. Additionally, if Gonzalo's structure holds together over night and it continues to intensify, it could reach category 4 status tomorrow and still be above 950 mb.

So the storm actually did some good amount of damage in the Islands?

Gonzalo seems to be a combo of Fabian & Igor I'm assuming

The latest track forecast from NHC did shift the center closer to a direct landfall to the island by Friday.

Wow, seems like forever since we have seen this type of system in the Atlantic Basin... Looks like he is gonna make a run for Bermuda... Two middle of the ocean islands, Bermuda & Hawaii, look to have land falling systems almost at the same time...

Any chance of a special advisory if it's found to be significantly stronger?
