Didn't they update the SSHS about a year or two ago to bring 130mph into the category four range for subsequent to better line up with the knot figure for said intensity?

But wouldn't it be likely that the window for further strengthening would be narrowed significantly by the time it completes the ERC?

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Thought Gonzalo was looking a bit ragged this morning looking at the sat loop....but, with only a 2 mile wide eye I can now understand why I could not see Gonzalo's eye real well. Impressive late season hurricane though. Bermuda better batten down the hatches.......MGC

Because it's under an EWRC. Many cat 4 such as the ones in the WPAC look ugly too when they go under EWRC.

Gonzalo looks like it is becoming more round overall, looking at the greens and yellows in the above loop :uarrow:

Remember when Wilma went from its little eye to that huge 25 mile eye when it struck the Yucatan? Hopefully this storm doesn't do that after its EWRC for the sake of Bermuda! IMO, it looks like new intense convection is trying to once again wrap around the center, and we may see the donut open by tonight again...unless shear gets thrown into the mix.

The most recent microwave imagery, from last night, certainly indicates a very large outer ring that was surrounding the tiny core... I do actually wonder if it's gonna pull a Wilma and let the outer ring become a much larger and thus much more potentially dangerous eyewall, if somewhat weaker. We'll see once the ERC completes.

Michelle has already weakened in that image. It was actually one of the best looking Cat.4s I've seen

Not to take up too much space on this Gonzolo thread, I have left off your images.

Although the pics you posted look great, the one I posted was still south of Cuba when Michelle still had 120 knt. winds. The position 25 below is south of Cuba, when the ugly picture was taken. So, although she looked great the night before, early the next afternoon she didn't look as good anymore.

Below is photo (video frame) as the subtropical eye of Michelle passed over Nassau, looking beautiful again. Rainbow was formed by sea spray suspended in the air.

I don't know how legit that image is. I was present in Nassau for Michelle, and although there was a long calm period during the eye, it was always 100% overcast--not an ounce of blue sky.

Yes, that wonderful impenetrable Conus saving cold front that is over us at this moment.

Given its small size, the ERC may drop the intensity quite a bit - perhaps to Cat 2. But the much larger eyewall might be a sight to see...also the size of the storm may expand considerably.

You must have looked out at the wrong moment. Me, Jim Leonard, Mike Theis, Brad Riley all intercepted Michelle on Paradise Island (Nassau suburb). Check their websites for similar images. Not only was there clear skies in the "eye" captured on video by all of us for nearly an hour, there was the unusual occurrence of sunlit skies on the backside circulation with 90 mph sustained winds for over a half hour with the sun shining through a very thin cirrus cover SW of the calm center. Thanks for the compliment on the highly rare photo.

Below, albeit low quality, is satellite image of Michelle at the same time as the clear eye from the ground image; showing a clear center.

Does anybody have any live streaming webcams from Bermuda? The only two I could find are not operating.

These appear to work in Internet Explorer but not Google Chrome.
