Significant Weakening?

#1 Postby Tip » Mon Sep 15, 2003 12:12 pm

Eyewall is noticably shrinking, clould top on western side warming and there is a lot of dry air infiltrating the western side.

Let's face it, this system is running into significant trouble right now. The east side of the storm still looks good, but the shear on the west side has removed much of the convective activity on that side. An analysis of the 500mb-200mb levels shows the problem with shear it is encountering. However, wind forecasts at those levels show a large drop in the shear tonight into tomorrow morning. Shear will pick up again Wednesday into Thursday as the trough to the southwest begins affecting the flow in advance of Isabel. This storm will likely drop into the cat 3 range by tonight and regain a little strength on Tuesday.
