That is because the GFS has no freeze for Henderson. You're simply looking at raw GFS data. No meteorologist prepares/modifies the model output in their forecasts.

Sleeting in Round Rock. Not in the forecast yesterday........Wxman57, what is your take? For New Years Eve? A 1060 high in the plains ushering in not modified air over that increasing snowpack???

Let's see what kind of air moves out of southern Canada tomorrow. I find it hard to believe that with the passage of this Arctic front temperatures here in Houston will be only 1-2 degrees colder than they are now (low 40s), as the GFS is forecasting. I think we'll be looking at highs in the low-mid 30s by Thursday (Houston).

We had a few minutes of light sleet here in Del Rio this morning. Did not last more than 5 minutes...(at least while I was outside)

Both the NAM and Euro have a 1060mb+ within 48hrs in Alberta. This is one of the bigger high's we have seen in awhile. Central Canada is cold and evident with the Polar air mass currently in place. The Siberian air our friend orangeblood has been tracking is now making it's way into Alaskan/Yukon border. It's going to hang around until the Arctic front comes through.

Image

Our big HP 1055mb right now in far NW Canada and building

Image

That's not it, Euro (using wxbell) as mentioned has another massive HP cell (1060mb as well in Montana) to follow at the end of it's run with deep cold anomalies drilled down the great plains. As with most great arctic attacks it just comes and comes until it all comes crashing down. As long as the Alaskan ridge sits (which now progs to enter the adjacent arctic regions) it's a factory for strong HP.

A very cold rain falling this morning at the PWC. 35 degrees and light rain. Feels wintry enough for me outside. :cold:

A few sleet reports are coming in from parts of the Hill Country (earlier) and northern parts of the Austin metro area. That certainly wasn't in the forecast.

Just perused model runs. 12z NAM best run yet, IMO, for best capturing Arctic airmass coming and I still think that run is too warm. I also noticed the 6z GFS and PGFS trended a bit colder. Think we're going to see that trend today in subsequent model runs.

Out making a grocery store run, it's 41 degrees and raining. Absolutely miserable weather?

This is my biggest concern. It could get pretty rough.

I'll be out working delivering pizzas, and then in all likelihood going to an afterparty with coworkers... North Texas drivers are infamous for being bad at driving in icy conditions and I am really not looking forward to the idea of a bunch of them being drunk and sleepy to boot that night. I hope the freezing precipitation holds off until sunrise New Years' Day. :cold:

The work gang thinks going to Winstar in Oklahoma for New Years would be a great idea.

No sleet observed here in N Austin near P'ville. Just cold drizzle and 36F. Got a weather station, waiting for it to stop raining before I go put it up.... hopefully tomorrow.

I've been thinking about getting a weather station for a while. Any advice on which one to get?

Had mine up for a little over a year now. Last year was such a great year for having a new station.

Like porta said, NAM is best yet but still too warm. What i think will happen honestly is what the models were showing almost two weeks ago. Remember those maps? Big 'what if' is when the precip comes in. I would love a precip event like we are having right now. Its possible. Hopefully the timing will be right. Im leaving town on Jan 3rd to go to AZ though. Heads will roll if it dumps with snow here and i miss it. HEADS WILL ROLL! ;)

On that note, will the models ever get it right? Even if it sees temps in southern Canada? Im not s sure. I noticed the 1070 HP on the NAM too :) dont see that often.
