With temps on the western side of the metroplex still very cold - Fort Worth 32, NRH 32, Weatherford 28, Haslet 30... I don't see tonight's low as "31" when it starts dropping in a few hours, all the way till 7am..

Haha, I still watch that old Jim Cantore video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POsOJTfBIs4 Good stuff. I believe we had thunder snow during our record breaking snowstorm a few years ago.

We're at 38 also with a 29 dewpoint ... It did go up to 40 at one point overnight then down to 36. I have no clue what we're going to get.
Called my mom in N Dallas and she had no idea whether she got any sleet overnight - it was gone by the time she went outside. She said it's 38 where she is.
FWIW, we still had sleet on our roof this morning in Richardson from the brief sleet shower last night.

Folks we are looking at a real possibility of a major ice event across much of NTX including the DFW metroplex. Unlike last December's ice event this will fall as freezing rain for a longer period before sleet and light snow mixes in if it transitions that far. This means power outages will be a major concern along with hazardous travel across the area.
I'm no pro, but I do know how to read the models and look at the upstream patterns. If Harold Taff was around today he would be telling you the models are underestimating this unfolding event and that you best be prepared.

Around what time should we expect the precip (whether frozen or not) to start hitting the Metroplex? Trying to decide if we should hit a couple NYE parties early and then get home before midnight, or just not go at all.

Amarillo is sitting at 11F and the GFS still thinks they should get over 20. Several days ago it had their low in the mid teens and they spent a lot of time in the single digits. I'd call that a bust.

Looks like 3-5" of snow for D-FW area tomorrow afternoon/night according to the 12Z Euro.
Is it showing all rain for south central TX?
The snow axis is from Midland to Abilene to east of Wichita Falls. It doesn't indicate any snow accumulations for the Austin area.

12Z Euro is indicating around sunrise tomorrow. Most of the snow falls between sunrise & sunset tomorrow.

I understand why NWS hasn't and probably won't issue a Winter Storm Warning for Denton, Tarrrant and counties eastward, but I'm quite shocked that Parker and Wise county don't have a WSW yet.

Wxman, the euro (wxbell) says the snow line has moved ever so slightly to the east, .2in of snow, probably sleet imo. Thoughts?

38 degrees with a DT of 29 here at the Weatherdude center. Sure does look and feel like some kind of Winter weather precipitation will come together it seems, based on my own instincts and personal historical experiences living in South Central Texas, along with the encroaching system and continued filtering in of the dense Arctic air mass.

I generally don't consider any of the gray shades in the Euro to really be snow. Probably a mixture.

Latest NAM/WRF very similar to EURO...2-4 inches across metroplex (sleet?). I would think upgrades to Warnings are not out of the realm of possibilities at this point!

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
I was looking at the same thing about the need for them to upgrade to warnings. I think we are at that point. I think its time to start watching the possibility of this thing heading further east than expected as well since that seems to be whats trending. IMO from what I'm seeing it looks like even the easterly temperatures are busting a few degrees 2-5 degrees which we know thats all it takes!
At this point I would include WSWarnings to include all of your HWY 75 counties and westward. You may even include the line of counties to the east of 75. Then see how things go thru 7 pm then issue WSWatch, or possibliy WSWarnings further east.
