Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
OK, so when's our NEXT big shot at some REAL winter wx??????? Or will this weakish/strongish Nino run prevent defense on our hopes of snowy snow for Texas? I know it is early for our Winter, but man these "episodes" have been interesting, but not what most winter fans in here like.

Looking like a good chance for some wet snow along and north of I-20 Tuesday night into Wednesday; some of the guidance is also trying to show some moisture in central Texas, too. We shall see

If "our" means south central Texas, I don't see any chances through the next two weeks. In fact, we'll probably moderate by the middle of next week and that may last until late in January.
Isn't that great? I love warm weather.

Some precip is moving through the Southern metroplex right now, it looks like another band to the west could hit the central areas of the metroplex, It looks like the areas that are seeing rain/frz rain now and the areas that might see it in a little bit will have the best chance for freezing rain tonight.

Almost three weeks seems like a long time portastorm. You have gone over to the dark side! I say ten to twelve days (not based on anything in particular) Models have not been particularly good in extended range. Going purely by GFS cold would really return by 26th though :/

The Faux Nino is not helping matters much. It's not strong enough to really help us with significant precip, but it is strong enough to just mess up any chance of significant winter weather, IMHO.

Don't worry Porta, Strat Warming is working its way down into the lower tropo...appears AO will crash around the 22-23rd of this month, coinciding with the southern plains prime winter weather period - late January into early February. The coldest/stormiest period is yet to come, IMO!!!

It didn't stay below freezing for long in my area. I did notice a slight glazing on elevated objects early this morning but that was about it. It's up to 35 now.
So much for the whole last minute winter storm warning.

Really concerned that this might be upgraded to warning at some time as the temperature is currently 37 with a dew point of 11 and .75-1.00 qpf expected:
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO
9 AM CST SUNDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SHREVEPORT HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR LIGHT FREEZING RAIN...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM
MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM CST SUNDAY.
* EVENT...A COLD RAIN WILL BE MOVING INTO THE REGION OVERNIGHT.
THIS RAIN WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION WHERE TEMPERATURES WILL
LIKELY FALL TO NEAR OR SLIGHTLY BELOW FREEZING OVERNIGHT. THE
RESULT WILL BE LIGHT FREEZING RAIN WITH ACCUMULATIONS LESS THAN
ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH ACROSS THE ENTIRE ADVISORY AREA.
* TIMING...THE COLD RAIN WILL LIKELY BECOME FREEZING RAIN NEAR
MIDNIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH 9 AM SUNDAY MORNING.
* IMPACT...ICE ACCUMULATION ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES...POWER
LINES AND OTHER EXPOSED SURFACES WILL BE THE MAIN IMPACTS WITH
THIS EVENT. ICY BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES WOULD THEREFORE IMPACT
TRAVEL OVERNIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING UNTIL TEMPERATURES
RISE ABOVE FREEZING.

But there doesn't seem to be a tremendous amount of evaporative cooling going on with this system...seems as if the warm air aloft is being brought down to the surface by the rain drops thus countering any wet bulb cooling (they aren't super cooled as you sometimes see)...it's been the theme over the past two weeks

Yep has not been that cold farther aloft. BTW the system is now appears to be weakening.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
Dew points east of Dallas seem to be rising steadily. I have my doubts about a "big event" there. This is also a weakening system.

Light rain and a slow drop in temp to 36, but the DP has risen to 29 so doubt we see freezing temps. Car shows 33, but I do not believe it to be that low.

Temps do seem to be falling faster than modeled. So we will see if the heavy rain later tonight can bring down enough warm air to prevent icing in North and Northeast Texas.
