Just a cold rain here in Anderson Mill. Looks like temperatures are rising again, we're up almost 2 degrees in about the last 45 minutes. I think we need another heavy rain shower to pull that cold air down. I don't see any out there at the moment, but I won't give up hope!

Y'all Austinites enjoy this. Hopefully next weekend will be I-20's turn.

Haha that's funny. I think North Texas has seen their fair share of snow the past few years while Austin hasn't seen more than an inch in over 10 years.

Geez, I just hate this weather … cold … rainy … it’s awful.

What I want is …. &^%#^(******* -- WAIT A MINUTE?! WAIT! Where am I? Am I back in the Texas winter thread? Oh thank God. I was in this terrible, horrible place where phrases like “zonal flow” and “warm air advection” and “winter=cancel” were said all the time with a smile. It was a place full of folks like wxman57 who hated winter. Words like “sleet” and “snow” and phrases like “McFarland Signature” and “Arctic Outbreak” were forbidden. And I felt like I was drugged or something. I couldn’t move and couldn’t say what I wanted to say.

Oh man … I’m back guys. I’m back!! When’s the next snow/ice event? What are the models saying? Where’s that 850mb zero-degree isotherm at? Give me snow and sleet and freezing rain and Arctic outbreaks and Grey Goose cold!!

Whoa! I was outside in shorts/short sleeves enjoying the cold mist on my skin when suddenly I remembered who I was. I HATE cold weather. Give me 100 degrees every day of the year over this! Counting down the days until our highs top 80 again...

I'll crawl out on the limb and say Austin will see some snow as long as moisture hangs around. Im not throwing SE Texas out of this either. Seen this happen so many times IF, and I say IF, the Low tracks right over us. Its happened 4 times since ive been here and it has surprised us every single time.

If its already carrying moisture, and it comes in the vicinity of the GOM with cold air still aloft. Dynamic cooling could be our friend.

This is not a forecast. Im a wealth manager, certainly not a meteorologist.

I was only 0.25" off on my guess of 0.25 or less last night, we got 0.00

About 1.25" total - delighted to have it, wish we would get more while the ground is saturated.

Per the FWD AFD

.EXTENDED...
ON THE HEELS OF OUR CURRENT STORM SYSTEM IS A 500MB SHORTWAVE
SLIDING DOWN THE CALIFORNIA COAST. A 200MB LOW HAS ALREADY CUT OFF
NEAR THE NORTHERN EXTENT OF A TROPICAL PLUME AROUND 1200 MILES
WEST OF CABO SAN LUCAS. THIS WILL PREVENT THE MID-LEVEL SHORTWAVE
FROM MAKING ANY PROGRESS EASTWARD. THOUGH IT WILL STRENGTHEN...IT
WILL ALSO GET STRANDED OFF THE COAST OF BAJA. RIDGING WILL THEN
BUILD INTO THE GREAT BASIN...SETTING UP WHAT LOOKS LIKE A VERY
TEMPORARY REX BLOCK. ALTHOUGH NORTH AND CENTRAL TEXAS WILL
INITIALLY BE IN NORTHWEST FLOW IN THE WAKE OF THE EXITING
SYSTEM...THE STREAM OF POLAR AIR WILL REMAIN TO OUR NORTHEAST.
SHORTWAVE RIDGING TO OUR WEST WILL QUICKLY PAIR UP WITH THE GREAT
BASIN RIDGE...AND THESE ANOMALOUSLY HIGH HEIGHTS WILL PREVAIL
ABOVE OUR HEADS THE BULK OF NEXT WEEK. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL
REACH THE 60S...AND POSSIBLY 70S...SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY EVEN
THOUGH SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL NOT RETURN UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF THE
WEEK. THE NEXT FRONT AND ACCOMPANYING RAIN CHANCES WILL ARRIVE
NEXT FRIDAY.

Ah, good, the 12Z GFS is not nearly as cold across Texas on Super Bowl Weekend and now has no snow across the state. That's in line with the 00Z Euro. Perhaps we'll see a big warm-up in February. :onfire:

It's only one run, although I don't like it's agreement with the euro. The end of the euro run did not look quite right to my eyes though, can't really pin it down, but it fid not look "natural "

12Z GFS is not that cold for Texas through 384 hrs. A light freeze for Dallas at 384 hours isn't anything close to extreme.

The deterministic models are not in line with their ensembles....the system spinning off SoCal is the key to next weekend. The ensemble mean is kicking the system out faster than what the deterministic models show. If you want to see snow, it needs to kick out quicker and phase with the Northern Branch.
