Same thing here in Austin. Progged low by NWS was 36. Most of the metro area ranged from 31-34 this morning. Not a terrible bust here but the forecasted low was definitely off some and they didn't handle the level of cold air all that well. Progged high today here is 49. Last night it was 54.

That's not possible. The cold is always two weeks out and never here.

That fits with my observations. My weather station was reading 33.5 this morning when I left for work. Kind of a shock to the system when it was reading 71 the day before.  :cold:

Down to the upper 30s at my house in southwest Houston this morning. A big change from yesterday's upper 70s.

Some climatology for north Houston (IAH). My favorite column is the orange one. The years 1986 and 1996 had some great February weather.

We did manage 80s this January so 80s again in Feb would not be a shock especially with the upper ridge building over the Southern Plains. Hopefully we can sneak in a -EPO end to the month. 10 of the last 15 years have had snow reported in Northeast Texas after February 1st.

wxman57 wrote:It's not looking good for snow across NE or SE TX this year. GFS has nothing through the 18th. The pattern isn't changing. Massive low in the Gulf of Alaska has found a home there and isn't moving. It continues to pump relatively warm Pacific air into western Canada.

If this low remains, do you have any idea on the implications for Texas weather as we head into Spring?

I know you are new here and have not seen the give and take we have had ( for many of us over 10 years) with each other. Many of us know Wxman 57 personally and that is his wit..Just chill....weather is fun.

Anyone know how many freezes we have had this winter compared to this time last year? I googled it but not able to find that information anywhere.

You may have to extract the data yourself to figure it out. If you go to this page: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/fwd/?n=dfwclimo you can use the drop-down "Daily Summaries for Previous Months". The data is there for you to extract <= 32. Have fun!
