If we are going to get lucky this winter that will probably be the storm that does it. That said I would put the chances for a winter storm in the eastern half of Texas from that storm at less than 10% right now. All the models are handing the late Feb period differently though all look at least a bit cooler than average temp wise. The models are in pretty good agreement on the teles for mid month with a -EPO, +AO and neutral West NAO.

That day 10 storm does look interesting(the GFS has been hinting at it too) and the pattern might be a bit better then... but I'm gonna be a huge skeptic for now. I agree though, if there's any hope for this winter that's probably it

The latest Euro has another blizzard for the NE and shows a -EPO signature with HP's ready to plow just east of the rockies. HOPE!

Things do seem to be trending towards cooler weather for the second half of the month. Hopefully this trend continues and I think it will as it seems to be shown in the major models, ensembles and teles.

Come to think of it, we did have that freak freeze in early March last year. It killed my Sago leaves. Maybe again this year again?

We had a freeze here in Houston around that time too.

Rare Feb Typhoon Higos recurving, tell that to the models. Should reshuffle the Pacific.

Here is the $64,000 question....will March be frigid? Hummmmm...this will be interesting. Will Wxman 57 have to finally use those portable propane heaters? Will Porta finally get to use Champ the Charger on a chase? By the way, (much to his delight), it is 82 where he and I are now. Sigh. My run is going to be just great. At least it is dry.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
Models must have trended colder for the weekend? Yesterday forecasts were for 61 Fri, 67 Sat and 70 Sun. Now it's 61 and then back down to high 50's for Sat/Sun. Yuck. 50's are no fun at all.

Wasn't a recurving typhoon responsible for the November cold and only frozen precip(the dusting) DFW has seen?

Front in early March last year was VERY strong. March 3 at DFW was 34/16 which is 29 below normal. Haven't had a -30 from normal since 89 I think, and only a few at 29.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
It would be kind of funny if the biggest winter events are in November and March with nada in Dec/Jan/Feb LOL
Although I think there's a realistic shot before February is out
