It appears the Tampa Bay metro area survived the wrath of this freeze from looking at the obs out of TIA and PIE where the low was about 5F warmer than the forecast.

MOS was about 3-5 degrees too cold in most areas. MOS forecasted 19 degrees for NWS Jax, but ended up at 23.3 at my locale, which is about 3 miles from NWS Jax office. So that difference range seems to be the consensus across most areas of the peninsula. Still set record low temp this morning here in Jax, so still a very impressive arctic outbreak in the late stages of this winter season.

Looks as if there were a few spots that reached the freeze mark down near Lake Okeechobee earlier this morning. I know Vero Beach reached 32 degrees and Punta Gorda was 33. I'm not totally sure yet that they reached the freeze mark, but will double check. Some areas down in western interior areas of Palm Beach, Broward and Dade Counties dipped down into the upper 30s.

Yea I am in Western Boca Raton in Southern Palm Beach county and recorded a low of 39. I did see a report of 32 in the Acerage which is in the western suburbs of West Palm Beach.

Ft Myers tied the record low from 1960 at 36* last night. My thermometer is probably off so I would say we didn't go below 38* out here by the GOM.

No hurricanes today under crisp dry blue skies.

2PM: 61* now under bright warm tropical sun. Quick rebound.

Arctic High is now centered near over the Carolinas region and an easterly flow has commenced here in Jax, although temps are still very cold. Only 42.6 degrees at my home locale currently. it looks the max today registered only 44.7 degrees, so another record low max may have occured again today. The return flow has commenced and moisture will move in and mofiy this frigid air mass as the Arctic High now moves off into the Western Atlantic. NWS did podt light freeze warnings tonight across inland North and Northeast Florida and temps may drop to at or below freezing before some high clouds stream in overnight and rising 500 mb heights will bring in warm ar advection late tonight, so if temps do get below to freezing, i think it will be up until midnigh or so. I think temps will staedy off or even rise slighlty early tomorrw morning befor sunrise in some areas.

The weekend looks fabulous with temps rapidly warming into the 70s both tomorrow and Sunday as southerly to southwest flow comes across the peninsula Some areas may even approach 80 degrees on Sunday! That is remarkable after this impressive cold snap this week.

I was able to find evidence of freeze damage in my area this afternoon on castor bean plants, a noxious invasive species that just happens to be very freeze sensitive so there is no doubt that we had at least a very brief freeze in parts of north Pinellas county this morning. overall things look very good so I'd say we dodged a bullet. already there is evidence of a big turn with winds bending east of north on the east coast. By Monday it looks like dense sea fog may be an issue for the morning commute... a crazy change considering the dewpoint at Tampa is currently 16!

I am glad the warm air will come just in time for the Daytona 500 race on Sunday, it will be a nice treat for those fans that have had to battle the the frigid temps for the last couple of days.
Models are finally starting to come in line with the sypnitic forecast of a negative PNA pattern taking over the next couple of weeks, we will sit nice and mild while Texas and the rest of the south central US turns frigid.
Time to start working on my spring garden :)

It was an impressive Arctic Blast while it lasted(about 24hrs.) since the NAO is and has been positive the majority of this winter!

Of course this afternoon and evening started out cool/cold very similar to yesterday afternoon/evening but now that the wind has shifted more onshore it has warmed at least 5 degrees in just the past hour! Got to love how interesting living on the Florida peninsula can be in terms of temperature gradients with the East coast being about a good 10 degrees milder than the west coast due to a NE/ENE wind.

Of course along with every major cold snap here in south Florida over the past 4-5 years at least the NWS Office in Miami forecasted a low of 33 degrees for this morning here in Palm Beach Gardens when in reality didn't get any colder than37-38 degrees, why are they always so bullish with these cold events? I remember even with the extreme cold snaps of 2010 where we got into the low 30's here in Palm Beach Gardens a few times they were forecasting upper 20's instead. TWC had the right idea for this morning for the past several days and forecasted lows no colder than the upper 30's for my location.

Here's a rundown of Thursday and Friday morning's lows, via my home weather station:

Thu. AM:
43.7°F

Fri. AM:
38.6°F (Coldest morning this winter)

Actually looking forward to the warmer weather for once after having a cool/cold last four weeks, was nice and refreshing nonetheless.

Spring is very near! Just by looking at all the trees shedding and blooming for the past month.

According to the CPC the March/April/May time period could be wetter than average for the extreme SE (especially S. Florida). Wonder if this could be in part of a more active Subtropical jet bringing in spring-like squall lines out of the GoM? Either way the weather gets interesting from here on out.

Well, there is pocket of calm winds currently and the temps have radiated to below freezing, currently 30.6 degrees at this hour. Looking just out to the west, winds have already shited to the southeast across the Florida panhandle as they are getting the return floiw from the Gulf of Mexico. The Arctic High axis is now centered judt off the coast of the Mid-Atlantic with the axis ridging south to the Northeast Florida region. It looks as if the ridge axis will hold just for a few more hours, but look for the shift of wind flow to the southeast towar sunrise. High thin cirrus clouds are beginning to come over the region and temps should level off or even rise as the night proigresses.

Looks like temps will hold at or below freezing past midnight, thus that will give this area three consecutive mornings of freezing temps, the first time that has occured this winter season. Also, we are catching up with the freeze coiunt, and if the temp stays where it is right now past midnight, that will make ut 13 total freezes for the Fall/Winter season at my locale, which is just below our average of 15 here in Northeast Florida. Well, we are ahead of last year here, when only 9 freezes were measured.

As we have all expressed, our well deserved warm-up is on the way beginning tomorrow

:uarrow: Here's a heck of a contrast for ya,

currently it is 60-62 degrees in most of habitable Broward county heading west until you get to the Sawgrass Mills area, where the temperature tanked a full 10 degrees in just 2 miles! Temps go down to the upper 40s for many miles west of this location. Sure goes to show the effect of the warmer east winds, which currently die down by the time you reach the farthest western suburbs of here. This is probably the sharpest contrast I've ever seen around here on my way west from work tonight!

50.8 is the current temperature outside my locale. It's just a matter of time that these east winds will punch into my area, rising temps quickly by daybreak.

btw, we dipped to 32.4 here last night around 4 AM. Officially my coldest night of the winter! My usually toasty home dropped to 68 degrees lol, had to turn on the heater.

The third week in February you can feel a slight strengthening of the sun.
