Temps 4 degrees lower here than expected. 40F now after some showers are moving through. On weather bug, the temps near victoria and just NW of that area are dropping. Tomorrow morning could be a huge mess here in Hou if we bust by 2 degrees.

We're at 37 in Baytown right now according to Weather Bug.

Huge deal! I bet that made Portastorm jealous over there in the freezing drizzle capital of TexasHe would buy that.
Understatement on both accounts!
We honestly appear now to be the only spot in Texas north of San Antonio who hasn't seen snow or sleet to any degree in the last few years. It's really beyond the point now of whining or griping ... it's almost surreal, defying even climatology. Sorry gang but if anyone deserves the next big winter storm, it's my area of the state.

Even though my temp still shows 32 everything has changed to rain. all ice is gone. EWX must be really studying the situation because all they have done this morning is issue an aviation updated forecast.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
Made some meteograms from the 12Z GFS. I'm looking for warmth - not finding much. Big mountain in Houston early next week then a crash. Dallas meteogram doesn't indicate much precip this week, and most precip falls when temps are above freezing. Temps aloft may support snow, as I mentioned earlier. Not much moisture though. No signs of any prolonged warmth. Glad I have heated seats in my new car, though if I'd been the designer I would have bumped the temperature up considerably for the max heat setting.

That run goes out to about 15Z today or about 9AM and it has 0.1 inch of "stuff" for the AUS area so it should've already occurred probably the freezing drizzle and light sleet this morning.

If this atmospheric setup occurred just a few weeks earlier

Generally 39-41 across the greater Houston area. Don't see any temperature colder than 38. That's actually warmer than the models had been forecasting by 3-4 degrees for this afternoon. I remember plotting meteograms over the weekend with mid afternoon temps projected to be in the 34-35 range.

In fact, the more I think about this the more convinced I am that's it's time to shut down the winter weather branch of the Portastorm Weather Center. The PWC has failed miserably in the last few years and done even worse in it's own area. These winter events which constantly occur in other parts of the state on a consistent basis is like waterboarding to me. I give up. Who knows, maybe my departure will somehow turn the tide.
I'll hand my mantle of leadership over to Ntxw. That's one smart weather enthusiast who consistently delivers the goods.
Time for me to take a long vacation.

Im basing it off of the graph that is available on their site. Says they expect 44 right now.

You mean the lack of snow so far this winter? Still in a snow drought as promised here too!

It's the dark lord of summer using his mind powers on you, resist! We'll get you a flake or two in AUS and all will be good again.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
Just for you, Portastorm. 12Z GFS plot for Austin. Very little moisture available. GFS indicates a bit more than a trace of freezing drizzle tonight and a cold rain on Wednesday morning with a temperature in the upper 30s. Hopefully, the day-10 GFS temperatures will moderate upward...

You can check out the photos I snapped in the album down below. I didn't want to post them all here. I know how annoying it is to scroll through.
Still can't feel some of my fingers. Probably about time I purchase some gloves.

Re: Texas Winter 2014-2015
I feel guilty posting this knowing some of you guys are missing out, but here in Texarkana (AR) it is 24 degrees by my thermometer and sleeting so much I can't see the cows in the pasture. It is coming down hard, fast, and quite loud. The ground is covered and what water that was standing from the rains we had is all frozen solid. Not much wind and I'm thankful the freezing rain is gone. I do have icing on limbs overhead and some on the power lines. I hate to be greedy, but some snow for the kiddos to play in after nap would be great. Everyone be careful out there.

I'm starting to wonder if temps are going to be a moot point in central/SE Texas and SW LA.
There are currently a few showers in the TX/LA border area... but upstream of that looks awfully dry on both satellite and radar...
Speaking of temperatures, they're now edging slowly upward in SW Louisiana.
Rock beats scissors, paper beats rock, late-February sun beats even strong CAA under thick cloud cover.

Negatory sir. We will not accept your resignation. As qualified and capable as Ntxw is - and he's more than a worthy adversary and pebble in the shoe against Lord Heat Vader's miserly ways - you are our fearless leader.
That's true yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We have all suffered with you - well, almost all of us with the exception of a person or two to your east - as Austin has gotten left out. And we will all continue to have your back against the dastardly attempts at Heat Miser to overthrow the rebellion that you lead.
One day Portastorm, whether it is this season, next season or 10 winter seasons from now, we will all celebrate with joy as you get to experience the winter wonderland that we all hope will come your way soon.
Keep the faith, maintain the fight and hang in there. We got your back. The Texas winter rebellion will ultimately win, even in Austin.

That was certainly not my intention, I just didn't want him to feel left out after I posted DFW & IAH meteograms. I'd like to see snow in Houston, too, but since that's not going to happen I'd rather see highs in the 90s.

Seeing Portastorm so down truly makes my heart hurt. I'd gladly trade the sleet on my back deck - and our triumph over Lord Vader here in North Texas, Northeast Texas or whatever he calls it - for Portastorm to get some snow and ice in ATX.
