If the above happens over a high percentage of North Texas - an onslaught of moderate to heavy sleet before the changeover to snow, that complicates driving conditions considerably through tomorrow and on into Thursday morning IMO.

I wonder if travel in the morning will be a little worse than predicted now. Looks like the light rain is starting to freeze on higher surfaces, like the grill in my courtyard, with the low of 29 I wonder if the roads will start to freeze.

I think travel conditions will be pretty bad. FW really should upgrade to warning IMO.

BTW GFS is showing a high today now of 35F...so much for melting afternoon and 40s.

Does that have something to do with it finally showing the higher snowfall totals? Or is there less sun? Combination of both?

Well with snow cover it's difficult to warm the air and it has clouds sticking around until tomorrow evening by then it's too late. And then clouds thicken up again and we stay in the 30s on Thursday before cold front arrives and we might stay at or below freezing until Sunday...

FYI, something that Portastorm and the rest of us can only dream about - a friend of mine said his brother lives in Boston and he has SIX FEET of snow in his backyard right now.

Yeah that's what I figured with it catching on late with the snow cover. Pretty incredible week of winter weather here.

SUBSTANTIAL precip is falling and has been for a couple of hours between Abilene, Wichita Falls, Fort Worth and Brownwood. Should be some very good, cold runoff occurring in that region.

You know the GFS runs 24 hours ago had a whopping 0.00" of QPF for this system. Just look at the radar now prior to the main event. I hate keeping on picking on it but it's just silly how bad it's been precipitation wise.

You know the GFS runs 24 hours ago had a whopping 0.00" of QPF for this system. Just look at the radar now prior to the main event. I hate keeping on picking on it but it's just silly how bad it's been precipitation wise.

Agreed. No doubt. Radar estimates out in that area I mentioned are showing about .60 of precip. I'd bet it's closer to an inch right now.

Pretty amazing storm system that a few days ago wasn't even on our radar screen (at least not mine).

No matter what happens with snowfall later on, amazing rainstorm right now in the areas to the west of Fort Worth.

Wonder if any of this might steal energy, moisture and lessen/limit snowfall potential in a few hours? Ntxw, your thoughts?

Lots of red showing up on NWS radar. One HEAVY band to the NW and north of Fort Worth, another to the south of Fort Worth and it appears to be moving to the NNE. Going to be some serious rain in northern Tarrant County - at 34 degrees!

And more significant precip building back to the SW of Fort Worth.

I don't think it is stealing energy, it just means there is a lot of Pacific moisture the models were clueless about. There is a tropical connection and system west of MX hooked on #STJ
