Well, we only made it into the 50s today (the 70s only got as far north as Tyler), but it will feel quite balmy compared to tomorrow as winter makes a strong comeback.
The Ice Man Cometh Part II !
We will just have pockets of drizzle or spotty showers tonight with thunderstorms moving in during the morning. Winds will turn to the north as our cold front rolls through changing our rain to freezing rain by mid to late afternoon. This will be followed by sleet in the late afternoon and early evening, and then changing over to snow Wednesday night, all coming to an end by sunrise Thursday morning.
Although this storm will not produce as much sleet as our last event, it will produce a little more freezing rain (i.e., ice). Fortunately, most of the freezing rain in the Metroplex will occur when temperatures are just barely below freezing, so it will have a hard time sticking to the main roads. But trees, power lines, and elevated surfaces could get a glaze of ice on them before it changes completely over to sleet. The worst of the "ice" from freezing rain will be just south of the Metroplex.
The sleet that follows will have no problem whatsoever accumulating significantly in the Metroplex as temperatures fall into the 20s.
Thundersleet will also be likely in various spots in the Metroplex as well, and this could lead to brief bursts of heavy sleet. And then the sleet will give way to a light blanket of snow that will fall on top of whatever ice and sleet that manages to accumulate.
But wait ... there's more!
What makes this winter storm a little more concerning is the HOWLING winds that will accompany the freezing rain, sleet, and snow. By late afternoon, winds will be gusting to 40 mph at times, and if enough ice can accumulate, this could cause some power outages.
Rapid improvement is expected on Thursday with BRIGHT SUNSHINE and temperatures getting above freezing by the afternoon.
This is the last winter storm in the foreseeable future.

That's funny. Serious bust on the high temp today. By a mile. I guess at 11:59 tonight it could be different, but come on. I'm guessing school on Thursday COULD be in jeopardy. Looking that way. Winters last gasp? Possible doozy.

Ugh, yeah. This storm could be worse than anything we had last week, thanks to those strong winds. People get extremely upset when they lose power.

I think it's time for storm2k to start their own weather service, the government's just not cutting it anymore. Done with warning system!!!
still nothing from ewx... i know porta has a few words for them, he is trying his hardest not to break his own rules tonight
