DFW only made it to 52 officially yesterday. Was suppose to be 63...warm front? What warm front
currently setting at 50 only 18 degrees away from freezing. Will be interesting how fast the front drops temps

That would be a blessing ! "IF" that verifies .

I'm bringing back the SPIA Index from last year, I don't remember if it was sustained winds or wind gusts, but if it's a wind gusts then I don't think an index of 3 is out of the question for some areas.

NTX enjoy the Winter Storm for us in SE TX.
After near 80F and some partly cloudy skies this afternoon across SE TX, a strong cold front will move across SE TX this evening bringing dropping temps and winds gusting to 35MPH. Winter will be back with a 40F difference between today and tomorrow. Upper 20s and 30s expected Thursday morning across most of SE TX. Precip and clouds are forecast to move out of SE TX Thursday afternoon with cold but mostly clear skies Thursday night and Friday before slow warming trend and increasing rain chances. NTX will see the Winter precip fun beginning later today through tomorrow morning as Winter Storm Warnings are now in effect. 1-3" of sleet and snow are expected. Some thunder sleet and thunder snow may be possible tonight across the Dallas-Ft Worth areas.

See no reason to deviate from thoughts yesterday about Austin's weather tonight into tomorrow. The lack of watches or warnings from our local NWS offices is unexplainable. Unfortunately the public will be shocked in the next 24 hours here and it could have easily been avoided.
This should be the worst winter weather we've seen in several years.

I'm taking my laptop home with me today so I can work from home tomorrow if need be. Better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't necessarily mind a ridiculous snowfall amount; I can live without the ice forecast.

6Z GFS says cold rain in Austin with surface temps 33-34 during the precip. As the precip ends Thursday morning the air column aloft cools enough for sleet. 6Z NAM is warmer than the GFS for the Austin area. 00Z Euro drops Austin's temps to around 33 on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, I went out to get the paper at 5:30 this morning and enjoyed the low of 70 degrees.

Steve McCauley:
Well, Wednesday is finally here, and our much-anticipated winter storm will be upon us. It will start off with just showers and a few thunderstorms this morning, changing over to freezing rain by late afternoon and early evening (late afternoon for NW Metroplex, early evening for SE Metroplex). Then the freezing rain will change to sleet as the evening progresses, and then change over to snow tonight and end by sunrise Thursday morning.
Ice in the Metroplex will accumulate 0.10" to 0.20" (see my forecast map from last night concerning the FREEZING RAIN outlook). Sleet will pile up 0.40" to 0.60" with locally heavier totals in areas of Thundersleet (see forecast map from last night). And finally, snow will accumulate 1 to 3 inches on top of all this sleet and ice. Locally heavier amounts will be possible in Thundersnows tonight.
Mom is going to throw all her precipitation types at north Texas during the next 24 hours. Of great concern will be the strong winds gusting to 40 mph at times by late this afternoon and evening. This could cause power outages with the accumulating ice and snow.
The NWS has upgraded their outlook to a Winter Storm Warning for much of north Texas.
We can expect improvement by Thursday afternoon with BRIGHT SUNSHINE and temperatures getting into the low to mid 30s.

Late arrival of the cold air certainly saved today and the afternoon commute for DFW. Wondering if it will modify more than expected. It is March after all.

Am I looking at a different storm than you? It looks to me that the front is already closing in on Waco and the cold air is bleeding south into DFW right now. The red river counties have already dropped to the low 40s

It's colder than that up here along the river. We are currently sitting at 34-35.

Sounds like Austin is going to dodge any troubles.
