Strong possible hurricane force winds, several inches of flooding rains, scattered tornados (I saw 7 barns destroyed from Hugo in the columbia area)...if it goes that way---it could be ugly, even that far inland.

My little sister is in Columbia. Hugo was a direct hit to the SC coastline. It is understandable that Columbia received hurricane force winds. But this one is going in at an angle. So, IMO Columbia should be fine.

There's no way Isabel's core will make landfall as far west as Myrtle Beach....doubtful even as Wilmington.

If Isabel takes the projected course, and there appears to be a strong steering current coming into place to shoot it northwestward across eastern North Carolina (landfall between Kitty Hawk and Camp Lejeune/ Jacksonville) into southern Virginia, the worst I foresee for Columbia is a breezy couple of days and possibly some rain...no gusts higher than 20-25 mph.
