A creek that leads to lake Grapevine has flooded a road close to my neighborhood, causing the road to close. Thank goodness we have a back road to take.

We've heard some thunder but nothing is going on up here. We did have the lights flicker when the substation on Howard caught fire, but quiet other than that.

And as I wrote that, it started raining.

ETA rained just a few minutes. Wondering if we will get more overnight

Heard thunder earlier. A few sprinkles here today.

Houston got pounded again. University of Houston's NCAA Regional baseball games for today were cancelled due to the rain. That area got pounded late this afternoon. NRG Stadium's roof was leaking, water was coming up out of something on the first level and manholes in the parking lot looked like fountains!

One of the waiters, José Yebra-Ibarra, who worked at La Cantina in Port Arthur where I frequently visit, died in the flooding in Houston . The restaurant is right across the street from where I work.

Everyone is pretty shook up.

This has probably been posted before (my apologies if so), but in any case, this is a good resource to look up lake levels across the state.

That's really sad.

I can't get over Lake Travis being more than 75% full. Amazing.

Yep, we got water in our utility room again. It comes down so fast there is no way it can drain fast enough. The way our back patio is built doesn't help a lot either. I am going to have to get new gutters since the ones I have aren't doing enough. May also have to spend thousands to put in some sort of drainage system for the patio area. Haven't quite figured out how that will work and I worked in engineering for many years before I retired. We got 2. 44" yesterday bringing our total for the week to 11.77".  Our total for the month of May is 17.66!! IIRC May normal in Houston is like 4.54".
PLEASE NO MORE RAIN FOR AT LEAST A WEEK!!! :sun: :sun: :sun:

A couple pictures I took this afternoon of the Red River flood, just north of Texarkana. The pictures were taken from a levee about 2 miles south of the river. The land that is flooded was once owned by Texarkana millionaire Truman Arnold. He sold the land a couple of years ago to a rancher from Florida.

Can you post a pic of your patio area? My stepfather may be able to help you come up with a less costly solution for your patio drainage as he had a similar problem with his gutters/deck area. He was a handyman/carpenter/welder and was employed by NASA @ their balloon base in Palestine for about two decades building the platforms their huge weather balloons would lift up their research equipment on and got sent to areas such as Antarctica/Sweden/New Zealand/etc as the scientists went out in the field.

Wouldn't surprise me at all... June is still a wet month here and with El Nino it's likely to be even wetter.

Looks like an upper level ridge is settling over west Texas, great for my trip to Frio river this weekend and for the state to get a break from the rain.

Parameters were not on point for a twister (or so I thought) today?!!! This is dangerous folks. :double:

Actually, I talked to Portastorm at a Texarkana eating establishment a couple weeks ago. He told me that he was no longer a weather enthusiast(no snow in Austin for 10 years). He went onto to say that hunting for Bigfoot was his new calling in life, and he was on his way to Fouke, Arkansas(which is 15 miles SE of Texarkana) to find the Fouke Monster(The Legend of Boggy Creek).

It's true. :) This was my view this morning.

:uarrow: You show back-up and the Omega Block and Drought return to Texas. I always figured there was a correlation between the two.

Is this reasonable? From what I've heard recently, the ridge is supposed to flatten out and shift west a bit next week. I imagine this would allow for at least low rain chances with NW flow becoming established. Additionally, couldn't moisture from Andres and Blanca in the EPAC become a factor at some point?

That does seem like an odd coincidence.

In any case, rain or shine, it is nice to have you back online Porta! :)
