Hello from Williamsport PA. I was just getting out of a meeting at 7:30 pm an naturally looked to the sky. I saw a long edge of a band like cloud and said to myself, "It cant't be - already!" When I got home I looked at the satellite images, and sure enough, there it is! This is my first hurricane where I actually knew what is going on! Very exciting!

This image will probably be updated, in case you look at it and it doesn't jive with my story.

Hi, I'm in York County, Va. Today was beautiful, sunny and warm right up until around 5 when it seemed it became very cloudy all at once. Sections of sky became very deep blue (like before one of our summer afternoon thunderstorms). It began to rain hard but just for a minute, literally. Winds had picked up within an hour and now, 7 hours later, it's windier (airport reading 22mph), and it drizzled a few more times. This, though, is the very beginning stages......I'm under mandatory evac - I'll post more if and when I can.

15 miles south of Greenville, NC 65 miles NW from Morehead City. First band of rain reaches Greenville at 12:40 am while I was at work. Main part of band reaches my house just as I get home at 2:40. We did not have a beautiful sunset, it was already overcast here.

we woke up to cloudy and overcast skies and light winds that are getting rather gusty. It's very cool, almost cold. Just took my first set of storm photos. One thing I did notice while taking them, is that down the creek, there is a flock of seagulls, flying in circles. It's a huge flock, bigger than I've ever seen on this creek. Our tide right now is low, but high tide is this afternoon.Hope everyone is ok further south.
Oh, wanted to add, I let my dane out this morning. Big Mistake. She was acting wierd yesterday-barking at nothing, very unsettled, etc, well, she decided to escape our yard, and I spent 15 minutes chasing her. She's going out on a lead with me until this storm is over.

Power gone
It was flickering for the past 15 minutes or so here, now it's been out for 5 minutes or so, probably gone for the duration now.
Winds have picked up here, arm-sized branches are dropping out the the trees on a fairly steady basis. Rain had obscured the N facing windows on my house.
In case you're wondering - laptop.

At work here in Wilmington
Currently, breezy, showers. There have been a lot of transformer fire calls, some trees down, and some minor power outages. Cable was out for about 20 min. Not bad at this time. Don't expect much more except in gusts.

This is Jeb, reporting from north eastern Virginia, in Woodbridge which is 20 miles SSW of Washington DC.
Last night we had a very red sunset. There were some cirrus and cirrostratus overhead.
Overnight we were overspread by the cirrostratus overcast and there are lower clouds moving from the ENE.
We had a light rain band hit earlier this morning, heavier bands are approaching us from the SE.

Winds are NE at 14 mph gusting to 28mph. It's getting darker. It's chilly for a hurricane, only 64 degrees.
This afternoon into tonight we are expecting heavy rain, up to 8 inches and winds increasing to 55 to 65 mph with higher gusts.
We have everything lashed down outside or moved inside.
We have a wild night ahead.
Over and out.

We lost power around 8:30 this morning, don't expect to get it back. Getting gusts in the heavy rain bands around 50 to 60 right now, possibly higher. Not expecting the worst of the storm til mid- to late- afternoon here. Still appears to be tracking right over us. Tons of rain, lots of concerns about flooding. Still have periods when it calms down somewhat and is morelike a tropical storm, but i suspect those will be fewer and farther between as the day wears on. Moved over to my Mom's house. Our house is surrounding by too many trees to be safe. Tall trees are bending way over in the gusts. Will try to check in later.

Local media mets prog storm force winds as far inland as Raleigh NC.
Comment: Its getting rougher - fast. Just heard small limbs hitting roof and family uneasy but battened down for the duration of this storm.
power going down soon I think...looks like it will be 50-60 mph or so later this afternoon and tonight. Local met prog precip 6+ inches depending on storm's path across NE sections of NC.
