Uh-oh. We need a Dutch beer (Grolsch or Amstel), and then we'll be ready for Isabel!

Yuengling! The nations oldest brewery. I'll drink to that.
Hey Pimaster: You can get that in N.Carolina ??!!!!
Now I've seen everything!
I liked their original beer: before the Lager came out. The Lager is great too.
3 More Great Pennsylvania beers:
Rolling Rock
Straubs
Stoneys
No TV beers for me

Not true....Studies show that in moderation, alcohol can reduce cholesterol, reduce the chances of Heart attack, and makes you feel good.....lol
Of course, that is in moderation.
I'll take the English way.....Newcastle

Agree, moderation is the key. My husband and I enjoy beer on occasion and discussed if we should abstain from alcohol about 5 years ago. For the kids sake. We thought long and hard about it and knew of families where the parents just quit drinking or keeping it in the house until their kids are grown and gone. We thought it was better to illustrate to our daughters how you can responsibly drink. One beer before dinner. If we are all out to dinner, one 12 oz beer before dinner is fine. You just have to say no thank you when the waiter offers you another beer! We switch to water then. We're hoping since we've demonastrated this to our girls, that when they go off to college they won't go nuts. Sure I'm not naive enough to think they'll never drink under age, but hopefully b/c they've seen us drink moderately and not to the point of falling down drunk, they'll do the same. The one family we knew banned all TV stations but PBS, didn't have cable, put the kids to bed at 7:30 pm every night, never used a babysitter and of course shunned all alcohol. They were so extreme in this I have to set a perfect example for my kids, that we think their kids will go wild as soon as they leave home. I understand this is only our opinion and our theory. But I do stand behind it. We also put away any beer in the fridge when the girls have an overnight here - don't want to tempt fate......but the next day it goes back right next to the soda.

Moderation is the secret of life (not sure it applies to sex as well
.
Anyway a beer every now and then does not kill anyone.
My personal classification:
1) Harp (Guiness blond lager)
2) XX, Sol (Mexico)
3) Peroni Nastro Azzuro (hey, it's pure roman brand!)
Food like pizza do need a beer, pasta call for wine and the rest is up to you.
Ciao
Paolo

I respect the varyious opinions about beer and its evils....but tomorrow night while I'm listening to some great Classic Rock ala CSN, I will be happily tipping a few. (moderation of course).
Miss Mary...about the "perfect parents" you speak of. What they don't know is that their kids are probably already out doing everything they stand against at home when they have the chance. The only difference is they probably haven't reached that age yet where they frankly don't care what their parents think anymore, and do it at home!
I think you are doing the right thing. You do the best you can and let the chips fall where they may. There is a certain age where you lose control of your kids, and I feel like the one's that have been sheltered and pampered, have a greater chance of going astray than the ones that have been led by practical example.
Oh....I chuckled when I read youre line about putting the beer away when they have an overnight. Been there done that. We would leave for a day or two..come back and find the liquor had been hit. Of course..the overnight guest was blamed for it. YEAH right! Short of putting everything under lock and key (then there is always the chance that they have already made them a copy of the key), you are fighting a losing battle.
Now..just for the record, hence you think I drink to access. In our refridge right now are 4 beers left from a 6 pack we bought 2 weeks ago. It has always been like this, and we STILL lost the battle with our kids!
Whoops..I guess I morphed a bit

I take exception to what you said, j, on two accounts. First of all, CSN is not classic rock. Throw in Neil and maybe, but that's still a big maybe. You can argue it's classic rock all you want, but it's far from classic in my mind
.
But on a more serious note:
You speak of this age as if it's inevitable. I'm glad it wasn't for me. I've never stopped caring what my parents think (and it's not that I've forgotten: I'm still in college).

sorry for the generalization pi(concerning youth and age and problems ...).
I'm not up for an argument on what classifies a group into the Classic Rock category, but suffice to say, I'm what many will attest to on this board, a music junkie. This will be my 5th CSN concert, I've seen CSNY twice, and Neil by himself 3 times. Did I say I wasn't up for an argument??
They played Woodstock, David plays barefoot, The Hollies, the Byrds....Buffalo Sprigfield....sorry....but they fall into the Classic Rock definition.
Now..I know what you're saying and I respect that. I realize they are one of the most diversified bands out there. They have one of the top rated guitarists of all time (Rolling Stone)...they have magnificent harmonies..they can do it all. But.....the bottom line is...they fall into the very definition of Classic Rock.
