This is at the Norfolk Airport: Winds are currently out at the NE at 48 with gusts close to 60 and the bad stuff is yet to come!

And I still have power! Dom currently reports about 400,000 without power right now and its probably going to get worse as time goes on!

A break between bands but radar shows it's getting ready to really crank up - we're about 100 mile from where the eye is now and it's still heading this way. with the eye 40 miles across (i heard) we should get to experience having the eye cross over us in about 2 - 3 hours. That's exciting despite all the worries about wind damage. We're hanging in there, still no power, but have sterno stoves and a generator keeping the fridge operational. Had a delicious hot dog and veggie soup lunch... with a lovely centerpiece designed of cans of vienna sausages!

Far far away from the center of the storm, in northern Vermont, the sky is filled with wisps of cirrus from Isabel.

Tomorrow could be interesting here. We've got a wind advisory for tomorrow (not the most unusual thing) but.... I live in Vermont's tallest building, an isolated high-rise a few blocks away from the Lake Champlain shoreline. Under the best of conditions, this building generates its own high winds on the west side of the building (aren't microclimates fun? ) I'm expecting some real howling and rattling tomorrow.

If it gets particularly interesting, I'll put up a web cam and stick it in the window.

Just a weather update here from Baltimore. It has just started to rain steadily within the past 1/2 hour or so and there are waves in our creek. Winds are steady at 20mph coming from the south east, with gusts higher.

Took a little nap while the power was out, woke up a few minutes ago, and the power was on! Wind has picked up, whole trees in motion. Lake My Back Yard has formed.

Day began as bright, sunny day--but no birds and no squirrels (and there are usually tons as the neighbor feeds them all).

Clouds moving in. We are not supposed to be affected except that surf is up and there are rip currents... The total quiet and absence of critters and birds makes me wonder though.

Very west edge of eye just passed over my house, maybe 3-5 minutes of calm, and the winds now shifted around to the opposite direction from this morning. Eye wall not too bad on west side. Major rain band getting ready to hit my house (I can see it on the radar, this band appears to have formed in the middle of the eye, cutting it's size nearly in half.) Tree-sized branches are falling in my yard, and one small tree. Large branch (6" diameter) fell directly on the power line feeding my house, bounced off, then landed on one of my trucks, but it's a 1970 Dodge, so it seems to be OK. I still have power, though from the reports on the TV, I am apparently one of the few in the Eastern part of the state.

The eye is strangely shaped, it has rainbands intruding into it, so I'm going through periods of almost calm, followed by periods of 50-60 mph winds. The main south side rain band is getting ready to hit me from the south. Rain has significantly diminshed from the front half of the storm, although I'd say the gusting winds were worse. Kids from next door saw truck with large branch on it, were very impressed truck wasn't flattened. Most surprising: it's cold, if you stand outside you start shivering. The clouds are RACING overhead. Strong sustained winds right now (4:20)

From other locations: Community of Harlowe is isolated by rising waters in the sounds. Highway 17 between Washington, NC and Chockowinity is closed due to overwash.

Eye passed through here about 1/2 hour ago - we had 20 minutes or more of relative calm in which we were able to get outside and walk around (checked our house and no major damage). It rained off and on but winds were calm, I guess the eye was filling in because we didn't really see a blue sky. We have lots of trees down in the neighborhood, many roads blocked by fallen trees, lots of lost shingles and roof damage. Lots of flooding. But it appears the worst is over and it was not as bad as we were afraid it would be. Winds have picked back up to around the 50 - 60 range, but not as bad as the 90-ish gusts we were having before the eye came through.

I spent the day at Kure Beach. Winds were gusting to 60 mph +. Very heavy rain from time to time. Waves were easily 15 ft.

Winds are probably 20-30, it isn't raining, but you can see sheets of spray moving across the fields around my house. Appear to be in dry sector of storm, 1 more band may pass through in an hour or so. Earlier, a light chop formed on Lake My Back Yard.

I went outside to get a closer look at the branch on my truck, and it isn't a branch, it's the top of a tree (about the top 15 feet.) My house has apparently become a stop on the damage tour by early movers after the storm, a lot of cars slam on the brakes as they pass my house to see the tree top on the truck.

Quite chilly outside. A squirrel is going nuts outside, running up and down trees.

Quick 6:30 update: I went outside to move my monster truck back to my house, I drove down to the stream that was basically dry yesterday, it is almost at the bottom of the bridge right now, about 6 feet deep. In addition, Lake My Back Yard had now become My Back Yard Creek, as the water is bubbling out of the ditch drain (normally feeds into the stream,) across the farmer's field next to my house, and across my back yard.

Area report: Road flooded at Wichard's Beach and Highway 17, just S of Washington, NC. Grifton, Farmville and Ayden have curfews tonite, fortunately the local channel just announced that they will resume network programming at 8:00, in time for the new Survivor! Does anyone know if the Va Tech game is still on tonite?

Good evening, this is Jeb reporting to you from the stormy, windswept regions of northern Virginia. I am in Woodbridge, 20 miles SSW of Washington DC.

It is VERY windy tonight folks. The winds are sustained at 32 mph, Gusting to 55. Entire trees are in motion. My lights are flickering. Rain bands are sweeping in from the east and it is getting warmer and more humid outside.

We are forecast to get slammed by very heavy rain and wind gusts to over 70 mph tonight between 10pm and 4am. Over 1 million peeps are without power tonight and I have a strong feeling I am about to become one of them.

We've picked up 1.4 inches so far.

The waves down in Atlantic City were wild. I took a peak as I left work and the waves were really being whipped around and breaking off shore as well.
