What the heck?

#1 Postby Colin » Thu Sep 18, 2003 8:00 pm

I have a Flood Watch, and haven't had more than a 2 minute period of light rain so far...is there any possibility I get any more rain? Thanks!

Bands on radar are heading NW, and are currently SE of me.

"Bump" is used to get a thread back to the top. If it is responded to there really isn't any reason to post "BUMP."

Colin... Please forgive me for my bad sense of direction, but I assume if they are SW of you and moving NE.. then they are probably heading your way..

I would say.. you're gonna get a couple inches of rain.. wind gusts possibly in the 50's... and that would be it...

Isabel is starting to weaken more rapidly.. so the hurricane strength winds should be nearly long when they reach you.. Forgive me if I'm wrong and you end up with a beautiful night lol

As my older brother put in. Where I located in Montco County, you seem to be on the boarder line of where the rain band has set up. He is 20 miles south of me and he has been getting wind driven rain for the past 1 .20 hours. I have been getting mist/light showers Give it some time....Flood watch was put up do to the rain over the past month. You never know where the bands will set up.

They are moving NW Josephine, and the rain bands seem to be expanding...so I guess I'll get a little rain. Wind gusts currently at 41 mph...not bad...but I was expecting just a bit more.

I think you've got more rain coming.

But do keep in mind ( everyone should remember this): it isn't necessary for rain to fall on top of you in order for you to flood. The rain can fall at a higher elevation and drain towards you. Water in streams can be blocked, or even pushed back towards you. Dams and levees can break. Just because you don't see any water doesn't mean the potential for flooding doesn't exist.

It's very common, in the West, for rain to fall, unseen, in one place and kill campers basking in sun and blue skies, or at most getting a light drizzle, somewhere else. If my memory serves me right (it's been a long time since I worked with Dr. Grundfest), this was a factor in the horrific death toll in the Big Thompson Canyon flood.

Colin- I'm sorry.. It was just an educated guess and besides.. tropical systems can drop a lot of rain... that's my only reason I can think of right now.. I hope you don't get too much...

You will not get a couple inches of rain..sorry to rain on the party. Maybe an inch if you are lucky. Track was not favorable for us in eastern PA.

Colin, John and Heady Guy... Did you read the National Weather Service forecast out of the Philadelphia/Mt. Holly office I posted above?

The latest radar indicates bands from Isabel moving northwestward off the Atlantic.

Yes, that is very true, themusk...and I think I do have more rain coming...the rain band is expanding, and seems to be getting stronger. We'll see!

It's OK, Josephine, I couldn't have done any better. :D
