How many more storms will we have this year..?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

How many more storms will we have this year..?

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Thu Sep 18, 2003 8:08 pm

At the beginning of the year.. I predicted {at the other board} 14 named storms by seasons' end..

Well we've had 9... That means we would have to have 5 more storms to get to my prediction..

Normally my predictions turn out to be very close.. I don't know about 5 more storms.. I think we'll have 3.. maybe even 4.. but not 5...

The rest of the year will be interesting... I wonder when Juan and Kate are coming lol

I think it is possible we may have an active October or November and see 5-6 more storms, but I am going on the safe side and will say probably 3-4 more.

Wolfman... I think keyword is think.. this will be you guys only storm this year.. I expect any other storms may make direct hits on the Gulf or even here in Florida...

Just a gut intuition though.. we shall see..

It seems unlikely to me that any cape verde storms would come near the mid atlantic or ne because of the wake left behind by Isabel and Fabian jmho.

The season is just barely beyond mid point, now. I think we'll have at least 1 more storm in September - maybe 2. And 2-3 storms in October. Maybe 1 in November.

And I still think the Gulf isn't done yet. I'm looking for a late September/early October development in the NW Caribbean that affects the eastern Gulf & Florida. Could be a major storm.

You could be right wxman57....there is a lot of HHP lurking south of Cuba....and we've seen quite a few intense hurricanes in October (and Lenny in November) since 1995. Southern Florida has been extremely fortunate so far....but historically, October is second only to September in major hurricane landfalls on the peninsula.
