Least landfalls?

#1 Postby WeatherGuesser » Thu Sep 17, 2015 1:17 pm

I don't like storms that cause destruction, or even inconvenience.

So, with all the talk on various threads about how slow the last few seasons have been for the US, I'll ask this.

Has there ever been a season in the ATL with NO landfalling TCs?

For this thread we'll define landfalls as any populated area; Americas, EU or islands. TCs as anything numbered or above, rising or falling. Remnants may qualify also if they caused damage.

At least as far back as 1900 there has not been. That is according to the National Hurricane Archives.
1914 had only 1 tropical storm , no hurricanes , and yet it managed to make "landfall" in northeastern Florida , Georgia area.

I couldn't find any season going back to at least 1851 with no landfalls. It wouldn't surprise me if that is something like a one in 1,000 year occurrence.

We've had five so far this season, which isn't really that low. Also, it has been quite deadly.

Well we have 0 landfalls this year on the US but I expect that not to last through next week but even with 1 landfall it would be tied for last in term of US landfalls in a hurricane season

Whether or not there is a US landfall, this season does not qualify since several other places have been hit.
