And to think some people are actually complaining that Isabel was overhyped. That's a nasty storm.

That was more-or-less my reaction, too.

Ever hear of the concept of "modeling"? People imitate what they see other people do. The instinctive human response to this film is to ignore what it shows about the danger of storm surge and key in on the behavior of the humans in the film clip-- including, of course, that the people put themselves in the path of the storm surge. Not everyone is mature enough or intelligent enough to override that instinctive reaction with their intellect and better judgement.

The media, right now, is modeling some incredibly inappropriate behavior for the public to emulate. Film clips like this kill people. If I was an emergency program manager, and the media descended upon my doorstep to display themselves dangling at the edge of disaster, I'd do everything in my power to force them out.

Murderers!

From this video I have learned that a beach is NO place to be when storm surge is overtopping a highway. Man that video is INTENSE!!!

I didn't realize the waves were THAT intense!!! They were washing clear across highway 12!!!! That was SOME cane!!!

When the emergency peeps tell you to leave the coast because of an approaching hurricane, that means LEAVE!!!! There's no two ways about it.

Look at some of the pictures around of what happened to Hwy 12, that guy is lucky he didnt get whacked with a chunk of asphalt, let alone get decapitated by an RV.

Totally amazing.

I'm a great swimmer and have my lifesaving but I was almost swept away by rip tides in the Outer Banks. It's rough at it's best!!!! I can't imagine what that was like!!!
