Joaquin Preps/Obs - Bahamas/Caribbean/US East Coast/Bermuda
Created a preps and obs thread. Given the deep uncertainty, trying to incorporate everyone here.

In Providenciales the wind has been intensifying since yesterday afternoon. The airport is now reporting gusts to 48mph. Where I am on a ridge I would estimate at least 10-15mph more than that in the strongest gusts. Rain has been persistent since yesterday about 7pm. At this point I would say conditions continue to worsen. We are not under any watches or warnings (a major source of dissatisfaction here amongst the locals, most of whom did no prep).

I have to wonder that communications probably have been cut-off down in the Central Bahamas as this monster cyclone Joaquin is just pummeling them right now. My God, my heart and prayers goes out to the people down there right now in the Bahamas region. They still have another amost 24 hours at least of being impacted by this monster. There could be utter devastation in some areas when this monster finally leaves that region hopefully by this time tomorrow. They have suffered enough!

Guardian Radio 96.9 FM seems to be the best station to get info on Joaquin.

There is a missing cargo ship with 33 people on board as of now. Several rescue missions, including two hurricane hunter planes are trying to find it.

Thanks for providing the link for the Port Bermuda webcam. It will be very interesting watching this eebcam today ad Joaquin moves over or near them. Chances pretty good we probably will lose the live feed later today with Cat 2 or Cat 3 hitting the island at minimal.

Also, there have been no other new developments as of this juncture regarding the El Faro cargo ship. They found a life ring which was confirmed by the Navy from being off of that ship early last night. Of course, the ship left the Mayport NAS here in Jacksonville on Tuesday and apparently sailed right into Cat 4 Joaquin. Praying for the families and for a miracle to occur of finding the ship and the 33 members who were aboard that ship. All 28 Americans aboard the El Faro all lived here in the Jacksonville area. This development really has cast a pall over Jax and the nation. Heartbreaking and so tragic if they don't find the ship or survivors.

Yep! I'm in Bermuda. Weather has definitely deteriorated within the past hour and there have been a few sporadic power outages otherwise nothing else to report really.

BWS - Bermuda Weather Service

NHC have consulted with the SPC (Storm Prediction Centre) in Oklahoma on the Bermuda Doppler Radar images in the last ½ hour and our weather balloon ascent data – both agree with BWS and thus a statement will be issued in the next advisory regarding possible tornadic activity for Bermuda during the rest of this afternoon and early evening. There may or may not be lightning associated with their development as they will be quite shallow in the atmosphere and narrow in diameter – but may prove destructive to anything in their path.
Below see the striation pattern in the rainband which is indicative of tornado activity, especially in the NE quadrant of the hurricane.
Although 8 hr rainfall totals are now nearing 2.5” a lot of rain is just not making it into the gauge, thus we would estimate totals to be nearer to 4".
The NW end of the runway are 39 knots gusting 48 with a recent gust to 52 knots. (46 gust 55 mph and recent gust 60 mph)
RCC Bermuda Radio has current winds of 55-65 knots (63-75 mph), and in the recent squall they had a gust to 83 knots (90mph) (represents elevated and exposed areas of the island)
M&P Crescent buoy (N of Dockyard) is showing ESE 47 knots gusting 59 knots (55 gust 69mph).
