WILL THE DAMAGE BILL EXCEED $1 BILLION?

#1 Postby AussieMark » Fri Sep 19, 2003 6:05 pm

I was wondering if it possible for Isabel's Damage bill to top $1 Billion. I know she was only a category 2 but she was a large Category 2 hiting a populated region of the East Coast.

Will she be retired or do u think the name Isabel will be reused. Juan was reused after damages of $1.5 Billion in 1985.

If I had to guess, I would say this name will be retired.

I think the damage will fall between 1-2 Billion and she will be retired. Also if she does hit 1 Billion wouldn't she be the costliest hurricane since Floyd?

i don't think they can honestly say what the damage is going to be at this point since they are still recovering. i would venture to say though that yes it will top 1 billion. just my 2 cents :)

It won't surprise me if the damage toll is 2 billion or more....there is major damage on the southern portion of the Outer Banks....Hatteras southwest to Ocracoke (I saw homes floating in Pamlico Bay and motels wiped out from video taken during a newschopper overflight)

I agree with Perry. I've seen preliminary damage estimates of 1 billion for the Outer Banks alone. With all the inland flooding I wouldn't be surprised to see the total over 3 Billion. Add the loss of life and I expect that Isabel will be retired forever.

On a clip on cnbc this evening the reporter said the estimate will probably be cut from 2 to 1 billion... based on expected insurance claims..

I would say 2 million... and due to the number of fatalities I believe it will be retired.

This name will certainly be retired, simply because of the impact on the major metro areas from Richmond to Baltimore. Damage will likely be over 2 billion because of the track she took. However, this storm was really, from a meteorological point of view, quite weak. It was her track that made her impact so great.

My local news said there would likely be $1 billion in insurance claims. That is an entirely different claim than there being $1 billion of damage based in insurance claims, because I bet a lot of people either (a) don't have insurance or (b) won't report smaller damage in fear of their rates being jacked up.
