This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Development in West GOM?

#1 Postby Coriolis2003 » Fri Sep 19, 2003 5:17 pm

One of our local forecasters (Tallahassee) has indicated that one of the tropical models is forecasting the possible development of a tropical system in the GOM over the next few days. If development does take place, any movement will probably be towards the northeast which means some of you folks along the Gulf coast may experience some tropical conditions by the middle/end of next week.

I live just north of Atlanta, GA, and work NW of the city. We were rainy for most of the summer, but have had almost no rain for the past month! :o

Shear is too high right now. It needs to be watched though, especially towards the beginning of next week.

Yep, I'm sure if anything develops it'll head northeast for you folks over there. I doubt we'll see anything else over here this year.

Oohhh if only I knew his (Tom Siler's) source. This is the same forecaster who predicted that Isabel (while in the central Atlantic) would veer off to the north and miss Florida. Sometimes he's accurate, sometimes not, but he's usually optimistic about storms staying away from Florida's Big Bend. By the way, another forecaster (Mike McCall) in our area predicted that whatever develops would remain in the western Gulf. My prediction is that I'll believe it when I see it.
