The humidity and dew points need to rise fast because the wildfire in Bastrop is only getting worse. The smoke is filling the eastern and northern sky across Austin. I took several pictures from my yard of the smoke layer this evening.
This is affecting peoples homes, property and lives. It was reported earlier today that the fire was 50% contained, but by this evening, officials reported that it has grown in area and intensity and is only 10% contained. 2,500 acres have been burned from what I last saw and unfortunately it's only going to get worse.
It's going to keep burning until we get some good rain and it can't come soon enough. Despite how large this fire has gotten, it's nowhere near the size of the 2011 Bastrop Complex fire which burned more than 30,000 acres. Still, it's something we were hoping we would not see for a long time and unfortunately it is. Keep the people of Bastrop in your thoughts and let's hope this fire is not as destructive as 2011 when all is said and done.
