gusts in the mid 60s is crazy. Pretty much higher than I thought they would be. 2" or so in the city so far. Black sky to the east as a band rotates in. Will try to get a pic.
Edit to say the surface low shows up pretty nicely on the vis loop nearly due south of Galveston Bay.

Thanks. It hasn't rained all month, so we can use a little. Looks like this afternoon will bring a few waves and bands through. No way this low is purely frontal, though it's attached. It's a hybrid with sts conditions regardless of nhc calling it nontropical. It's partially tropical and partially frontal - best I can tell is warm core, has convective banding, gale force winds (earlier gust provided above offshore was near hurricane strength). Imho, it's a subtropical storm regardless of what they call it. But I will enjoy and if there are any other shots worth taking before it gets dark, I'll throw them up.

Could tell here that it was a spinning system due to the changes in the wind direction

Under a flash flood watch here in Pensacola. Everybody stay safe.
The WEAR-TV area is under a FLASH FLOOD WATCH from late Sunday night until late Monday night. Northwest Florida can expect 3 to 6 inches of rain. Flash flooding is possible as is minor flooding along rivers and creeks.
The WEAR-TV area is also under a GALE WATCH from late Sunday night until Monday night. Southeast winds between 20-30 knots with frequent gusts over 35 knots are expected over the gulf. Wave heights may reach 7 to 11 feet on Monday and Monday night.

Yes, looking at satellite, it's a close call. Some good rain either way. Stay safe, Some small tornadoes are always possible in these situations.Steve wrote:Thanks. Re: Hurricane Patricia's remains in the Gulf
No doubts that it had "some" subtropical characteristics earlier today but clearly it has a front attached to it making it nontropical system over all. The low pressure center has been decapitated of its deep convection, very strong mid and upper level SW shear

Thanks 98. There were some waterspouts in lake pontchartain earlier with an outer band. I think the severe threat is east and north of here, and with the super warm surge coming out of the tropics, I think Joe B was onto something for the northeast midweek after the transition and phase is complete.

Too dry and the STT's have probably cooled.
A demon that almost looks like it has an eyewall on radar.

So here is backyard with Patricia remnants. The way things are looking, we will get the frontal/squall line that is developing, and I'll try to catch that if it's still daylight and maybe the center if I can catch it tomorrow.

Edit to say I haven't seen a storm warning issued in a while. STS and I stand by that. http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwat ... %20warning
^^^^^double edit to say I wasn't following Bastardi's Twitter post. I just saw it.

Re: Hurricane Patricia's remains in the Gulf
yeah steve,
I don't care what they call it or how it's set up, down here in cut off we are getting very strong gusts at least TS strength and loads of rain.
already had some rather large branches break off of some oaks and I am surprised I haven't lost power yet.

Re: Hurricane Patricia's remains in the Gulf
Big curved band on radar over land with a remnant center over water.
Move that 300 miles south and I think we'd be talking about something.

Right on man. I'm not sure why this didn't get more play. With all the flooding yesterday in Texas and with clearly TD/TS conditions in LA and offshore today... Anyway you are about to probably get the worst there is they just issued a tornado warning for 7 miles east of Cocodrie moving ne at 40. You aren't far as the crow flies. Looks like the city will get that last hard band in an hour or so. Only thing after that would be if we were lucky enough to get the center tomorrow morning.

while it should have gotten more play, as you say steve, NHC said most of last week this would be a non-tropical system and the models pegged this one pretty good.
i think if it were further south it'd have had a better chance at transitioning into something tropical.
(I also don't think this one is patricia but something else that benefited from patricia's energy and moisture)

I hear ya 1012, but this is straight up tropical depression weather here with gusts into TS levels. It's actually a trip considering how late it is in October. I'm guessing the strong mjo pulse with the otherwise El Niño setup is the cause. It's pretty much Subtropical Storm Patricia Remnants (with some upper level support). Storming at the moment, but with the dry air surge moving in from the west, it should eventually be clearer and windy unless there is a night pulse.
