Good News on Ocracoke Ponies
Latest news on Ocracoke from Virginian Pilot online:
"All but one of the ponies on Ocracoke Island has been accounted for, officials said. They are ranging free, grazing where they want, their pens having been wrecked by Isabel.
- Lighthouses on North Carolina's northern Outer Banks withstood Hurricane Isabel. Ocracoke's 1823 lighthouse, one of the oldest on the East Coast, weathered Isabel well. The Cape Hatteras lighthouse, 25 miles north, which was moved inland to protect it from erosion, also is still standing."
