Update on the Next-Gen GOES-R Satellite Launch Date

#1 Postby wxman57 » Thu Dec 10, 2015 4:46 pm

No, I'm not posting to say that they're ahead of schedule and we'll have it in orbit next month. The March 2016 launch has been delayed until October 2016. If current issues are not resolved, we MAY be lucky to have it in orbit prior to the 2017 hurricane season.

That is disappointing but not unexpected.

Yeah, seems like they've temporarily firmed up a date to a specific month (again), however, I seem to remember as far back as this past summer, it had been discussed that the March 2016 launch date had slipped to the fall.

Launch date has quietly slipped a tad from October to November 4th of this year. Announced today at the 44th AMS Broadcast Met Conference.

GOES-S has a soft launch date of February 2018.

GOES-14 rapid-scan ops test will continue until 8/25/16 in preparation for the future GOES-R launch.
