The European Ensembles is reverting back (for a time) after the 25th to the December-like pattern. Cold west, warm east with center of the ridge and warmth over the Northeastern US. The western half of the state could benefit from this with low heights again over the SW US, and frankly I'd take the -PNA. 1. It should open up the pathway for heavy rain events, 2. Bowling balls coming out of the SW, and 3. It beats the dry NW flow and positive tilted troughs of +PNA. I'd take the late December blizzard with better climo. Caveat is does look like a torch coming out of the plains and spreading east.

The colder than normal values of late still equates to overall above average for folks in the Northeast like NYC/DC/PHL all +2 or so at the moment. For them if the coming torch is true and Feb does not end up well below normal, when coupled with their outrageous December positive anomalies this is going to end up one of the warmest if not the warmest winters in the NE US.

All three sites have seen a TRACE of snow to date. DFW has seen about as much.

Guess we have had some clearing over E TX as many spots are in the mid 30s. I am at 35/31 which is colder than I expected us and much colder than modeled. Overnight model soundings look very interesting later today with the freezing level continuing to drop. This is starting to look like a win for the GFS.

Wonder how heavy this band in Southern OK really is? Been looking for pics but can't find any. Looks like it has to be decent from radar returns.

Projected soundings look unfavorable for snow in the Metroplex. Temps in the 40 deg rage and a drying atmosphere by this evening. There just won't be much moisture available.

From what I've seen the radar should look pretty impressive as it gets close to the red river and the POOF! It's going to fall apart rather quickly.

GFS isn't any "better" for snow in the D-FW area. Dry and drier. Lots of moisture at 3pm (top image) but surface temp around 40. That would be your best shot at seeing some snowflakes. After then, the atmosphere dries out for the evening.

If that's the case, radar is heaviest around SPS, you may get an inch or two on the grassy areas out of it

This is in north Wichita Falls. Big flakes still coming down. A little more than expected but temp is sitting at 33 so it shouldn't last long.
