Beds
We are in the market for a new bed, actually, just the top mattress...what brand of bed do you sleep on? I've heard Simmons is good, Sealy even better.......I need a good quality mattress, 250#'s of dead weight when I sleep is a LOT of weight and it's hell on a bed "LOL!"

Can't help you there - we have a waterbed. And I will never give it up! We did once, to appease me when I was newly pregnant. The liner sprung a leak and hubby offered to buy a real bed. Then after a year on a real bed I realized I missed a water bed. His friend gave it back to us since it didn't help his bad back, made it worse he said. I said then and there we'll never get rid of it. Looks very bachlorish, LOL but I don't care. Dark pine with the ledge behind for lamps and clock. Love it in the winter. Kids fight over it - when they're sick they want to doze there while watching TV. And get this - the dog loves it too! She rolls around on her back, with paws all up in the air. We keep saying we need a video of that. She's a big dog!!!
Good luck Dennis. I will say that real bed we got I thought we could sleep on a queen. Discovered we should have had a king, so that queen bed is now Nina's. Take your time and shop around.

Dennis,
I have a king size soft side waterbed!! It is awesome! It wa my parents and when my dad died, mom gave it to me and I love it. However, it is a very expensive bed. I could sell it right now for 1500.00 but to me it is worth every penny. It is King size too, which is great because I have to have room for Jasmine (my great dane)
There are plenty of really nice soft side waterbeds that are not really expensive and they are wonderful. They have virtually no water movement and conform to your body and still give lots of support. You can make them as soft or firm as you prefer.
Anyway, those are my thoughts!
Love ya my friend and good luck!!

Sandi - ours is the old fashioned water bed!!! But with baffles. His old liner didn't have baffles, think that's why I wanted to ship it off to anyone that would take it - 1987. Then in 1989 we got it back. When it's barely above zero and you climb in, ohhhhh the warmth is undescribable! Expecially to a freezy cat like myself. You hate to get out on frigid mornings. My mom keeps asking when we're going to get a real bedroom set and has given me items for dresser tops. Right now we have a hodge podge of furniture in our room, I don't care!!! LOL Our room is always the last one cleaned or updated. But that water bed stays!!!

Dennis...we had waterbeds until 1990 when we switched over to the best pillowtop (Sealy) we could find. It's a king...and when those two moving guys had to wrestle it down from the top floor of the storage building, I thought it was going to win the battle....BUT, we wouldn't trade it for anything.
Be prepared to spend four figures on it, though.
Our justification for that kind of expense? We spend perhaps an hour a day in a car that costs 5-figures, watch TV in a house that costs 6 figures, so why shouldn't we be able to spend 4 figures on a place where we spend at least 1/4 of our life.
Pillowtop...the best you can buy!

I'm really taking all this in. Dennis, I'm looking for a new mattress too. Bought a good one about 3 years ago. I thought, "the firmer the better". Boy, was I wrong. This dang thing is sooooo hard you could play marbles on it!!!!!!! My daughters have the pillow top mattress and I sleep like a baby. I had a tubular waterbed and didn't like it.
I'm going to take all the suggestions here and go shopping too!!!!

We have a Sealy Posturepedic King, and are quite happy with it...less of a bed than a "parade ground", though. It took four men and a small boy to get it out of the old apartment and into this one... :o
Due to our shared back problems, we also have an under-sheet "eggshell" pad, in turn under another quilted pad, THEN the fitted sheet.
Plenty of room for Annabelle (she be a ho') in her role as "morals police dog" (she sleeps in between us).

We just bought one of those air beds, like the ones witht he sleep number system, but not that brand. We have a 90 night trial period and so far after a month, I don't think that I could go back to my other mattress. Both my wife and I love it. Each side is individually adjustable, mine is set softer than hers. (you can have it really soft, or really firm, change it daily to however you are feeling at the trime.)But you can't tell that they are separate air chambers. We bought ours online at http://www.thesleepbetterstore.com half the price of the national brands, but a longer trial period, just as good of a pump and mattress warranty. And the bottom line.....Feel like a firm mattress, got it. Feel like a softer mattress, there it is.
Good luck on your search.
Good luck on your search.

Well, we did it! We bought a Sealy Pillow top........in fact, "YAAAAWN!" I just woke up from a nap, really! MAN.....talk about COOOOOOMFY! Like it's been said, it took ALL Michelle and I had just to move the thing up the stairs and inside, I'm strong BUT......
Thanks for the input......I've often wondered about those air beds you see advertised, it's gonna be a LOOOOONG while now before we buy another one, like Steve said, it cost a small fortune BUT.....there's NUTHIN' like a good nights rest!

Well...last night was the first night since our last vacation that I actually slept ALL NIGHT! We stay at Holiday Inn Express' on vac's, the suites have the pillow tops, our last vacation was exactly one year ago! MAN.......do I feel 1000% BETTER! The money spent on the mattress was WELL worth it! Karan, my recommendation, a Sealy Pillow Top, runs about 450$....but like I said, it's WELL worth it!
