Texas Winter 2015-2016

This is my final post in the winter thread. Had a long ride along Brays Bayou from 3 miles outside the west loop all the way nearly to the east loop. Bluebonnets were popping up all along the bayou, signaling the end of winter. The only "winter" we might see in SE TX over the next 3-4 weeks is a few morning lows in the 40s. Time to move to the spring thread...

I would love to ride with such small elevation changes. Sounds like you have nice trails to ride too. My area really lacks for biking/jogging trails.

Still no wintry threat in sight from any guidance. Any threat beyond that will take us to the equinox. Mostly 60s/70s which by now is close to average due to rising climo. We will move to the spring thread for discussion Tuesday March 1st, this thread will remain open but I don't think there will be much to discuss here aside from reanalysis of what went wrong.

Best thing about this winter, my lawn is still lush and green especially now after the recent rain.

2nd week of march needs to be watched, A guy who is a forecaster in Indiana uses something called the BSR and is saying that it's hinting at a severe weather outbreak for the OV. He nailed the past 2 snowstorms with it. Of course the storm would hit Texas before it hits here.

Our cattle are starting to lose their winter coats but the thing I find the strangest is, the mesquite trees still aren't even trying to bloom. For this area that is the biggest weather indicator and it's accurate every year. Once the mesquite trees bloom you know winter is completely done.

I remember, years ago, my geology professor in Lubbock saying the same thing about Mesquite trees. She said they are the last to bloom, and once they do, the freeze threat is over.

The GFS says not so fast on the end of winter... last run had 80s in DFW and even Oklahoma City this day...





Edit: Lowest low is a mere 43 at DFW... carry on...

Thanks man ... it's been a forum-wide disappointing "winter." My frozen precip for the season occurred right after Christmas during a hailstorm.

See y'all in the Spring thread. Here's hoping we all get plenty of rain so this summer won't be brutal.

Folks, "winter" is over. I'm moving on to the Spring thread. What a disappointing "winter". Sorry Porta, I had really hoped you would get a decent 2-3" snowfall this year.

You know... I have a couple different mindsets for this winter

From the snowy side... oh hands down, no debate, worst winter ever

From the unexpected side... this winter was a shocker. I at least expected it to rain a lot... the cold was always a question but I never envisioned THIS warm.

But on the flip side... at least I didn't spend half the winter just wishing it had been 2 degrees colder like a lot of last winter(save the last 2 weeks), or chasing snow threats a week out that never verified(there were a couple but they never lasted more than a model run basically)... and I've kind of enjoyed the 60s/near 70 lol. Oh help... I'm turning into wxman57.

It was overall a torch winter for the entire US. Many in the met world were afraid of 1997-1998, it may not have gotten there the same way but the outcome was the same no less.





Even eerie that W Texas had a blizzard about the same time in December too.
