I forgot. It was 93. I remember the front coming through s.fl.. Winds were strong. Trees were down. I think it dropped into the 30's for a night in March!

Winter was nice while it lasted down here - large blocking high dominates the forecast for at least the next week, with comfortable upper 70s-lower 80s as daytime highs. 8-)

Yeah that pollen is coating EVERYTHING! Something else that seems a little bizarre for this time of year is the Oak Trees are still shedding their leaves and have yet caught up to the changing season, at this time last year and the past few years to be exact they were already blooming new leaves, could this odd behavior be due to the El Niño?

The wetlands are finally drying up like they should at this time of the year.

I think it has to do more that our "winter" came in later this year. Now everything is blooming later than last year, I've also seen mango trees flowering much later this year than years past..

Yesterday high temperature records were smashed along the east coast with winter temperatures in the 80's.

Most trees need some "chill time" where they slow down or stop growing and in the case of deciduous species, dump their leaves. that chill, along with the decrease in daylight really sets the plant's internal clock. We had no chill in November or December. Pines pollinate first here in the tampa bay area they usually begin within a day or two of January 10. this is only the second year that I've observed where they've deviated by a wide margin (in this case a month late this year)...no doubt this is a result of the exceptional late year warmth...the net effect is they're dumping super fast over a shorter period. with all the pines around me we are coated in yellow. the oaks are on their own schedule anywhere from late Feb to April and they so far seem unaffected. Many are in the process of dumping last year's leaves right now which is typical.

and just like last year the summer "quasi- rainy" season seems to be starting early with isolated showers and storms developing across South Florida this afternoon. Though it will likely get cool again before the full rainy season commences in a little over 2 months from now, it certainly seems "winter" is a distance memory at this point with hints of summer out there today.

It's also interesting to note how the rainy pattern suddenly vanished. After receiving much above normal rainfall this winter so far, we have seen none the past 3 weeks here and lawns are starting to dry out as a result - what this is telling me is that the "Godzilla El Nino" of 2015 is starting to fade as it loses its grip across the weather here in Southern Florida as we head into Spring.

Also, it appears that here across North Florida, we will have a pretty decent chance across interior areas of seeing the first 90 degree readings of this season this week before we see a very slight cool down with max temps in the upper 70s toward the latter half of this week. Some record high temperatures may be set this week. Wow. It is only mid-March and we will already see summer-like heat. It is just a bit too soon for my taste to be having potential 90 degree heat. We are about a month ahead of schedule seeing this type of heat. Normally, we don't see our first 90 degree readings until early-mid April.

At least we finally got some rain yestetday, just under an inch.measured at my locale. It was the first significant rainfall here in nearly 3 weeks. It will help a little bit in washing out the dreaded pollen which has been absolutely terrible so far this season. But, we need a lot more rain to really wash out the pollen in the air. Plus, the recent lack of rainfall is actually bringing extreme dry conditions in North Florida. Brush fires are beginning to flare across some areas of Northeast Florida. Quite a change in the pattern the past nearly three weeks now. This leads the question: Is the Super El Nino fading now or coming to an end? It has me definitely wondering given the abrupt pattern change recently.

Scattered Showers developing once again in association with the afternoon sea breezes across South FL(mostly NE portions in PB County). Only March 14th and it feels like the heart of summer with the heat and humidity and stiff wind.

That El Niño pattern for sure was very short lived and lasted only about 4-5 weeks. Just as quick as it came it left! Fortunately we will not have to deal with any severe weather it seems during these spring months like originally thought, of course with that comes a price, below average precipitation should be expected nearly statewide through the next month or two until the rainy season starts around mid-late May. I am NOT buying the CPC Precipitation Outlooks as they probably are way too bullish for some reason.

All in all, at least most of the state lucked out with any really significant severe weather unlike the previous strong El Niño, this was all thanks IMO to the Godzilla El Niño dying rather faster than expected. Though Broward County here in S. FL got hit pretty hard back in the early half of February by multiple tornadoes.

we've got a significant cool down coming...preceded by some potentially stormy weather. with warm and humid air over the area it will be interesting to see if we can squeeze out an episode of svr wx or heavy rain potential. thank goodness the unusual heat and humidity is going to be broken for a time.

Significant cool down coming? Please elaborate. I only see back to normal next week but considering the record highs this week. I guess that would be a significant cool down.

:uarrow: early next week. I just looked at your NWS forecast and it shows mid 70's over mid 60's. that's pretty impressive considering we're headed into latter March and it is below normal. up here we may have a day or two of sub 70 highs and lows in the 50's...possibly even some 40's in the usual nature coast cold areas. again that is a massive improvement over the current warm, muggy regime. if this isn't the last hurrah of refreshing air it's close so make it count.

We can thank the NAO for this upcoming brief cool-blast which just recently for a couple of days went slightly Negative. This will likely be our last cold front for the season if the NAO forecasts for the next 2 weeks verifies with it going positive yet again. Also the AO is going positive, and the PNA is going negative so expect more East Coast/SE U.S. ridging in the next 2-3 weeks if this verifies.

So wherever you are in Florida enjoy late this weekend/early next week! :sun:

Just light rain with an occasional rumble of thunder so far. we really need the rain so this is nice. looks like the northern portion of the line is weakening...best shot for things to get feisty is probably south of Clearwater based on current radar trends..

Looked like there could have been some rotation with that squall line moving into Tampa/St. Pete.
