Bestofour,
I went to see her on Sept. 20 and she is not looking good. She is getting weaker every time I see her. Due to access problems for a car, I am not able to see her everytime I would like to. I have to wait until I can get the car. With both my daughter and son working jobs where they both have to be at work before 6:00 am , someone has to take on to work while the other has the other car. Then the one who has the car has to pick up the other from work since she gets off before he does.My husband drives the other car for his job so I am left without a car during the day and evening .
There has been a problem at the nursing home where someone called my mother's doctor and said that my mother had scabies or lice. The person who called claimed to be one of my mother's daughters. My mother has 4 daughters but only three of us are where we can visit her. The youngest sister lives up in Northeast Ga and cannot get away as often as she would like to.
Now I didn't call the doctor nor did my two sisters, so we are trying to find out who called the doctor.
Some of her clothes are missing also and we are trying to find out what has happened to them.
As I find out more I will keep everyone updated.

I'm sorry to hear that Daylily.

Marty's Dad was in a nursing home for about a year before he succumbed to Alzheimer's. Marty's mom went to visit him almost daily and had the same problem with the clothes, even though she would take them home with her to wash. It is possible that some of the residents may have them because they thought that the item was theirs, etc. or it could be theft unfortunately. It's a very difficult situation to deal with. Marty's mom made sure everything had his name on it, but it still was a problem.

I hope that you able to find out who called the doctor. It's really ashame that you have to deal with something like that and the clothes when you are already trying to deal with your mom's illness.

We went to see my mom earlier this afternoon. I took her an arrangement that I bought in an auction at my Daylily Fall Regional meeting . It was an arrangement of fall colored flowers and greenery that had been used as the centerpieces on the tables where we lunched and had our business meeting for the Region 12 daylily stuff. She was sitting in her wheelchair when we went into her room so we took her outside on the porch and sat out there for over an hour talking about things. She is getting weaker and I think it is because they are not giving her the right foods. She complained about they serve the same veggies all the time. I will go back an see her tomorrow afternoon and take her some socks and fruits she wanted.

These are difficult days, Daylily. But how lucky you are to have some time with mom right now.

My mom died when I was 26. She was angry at me at the time.

She slipped into a coma....and I never really made things right with her before she left.

Appreciate the moments, however painful. And never forget to tell her how important she is to you...and that you love her very much.

Our Grandmama is in a "retirement facility" (She will not hear the word nursing home in her presence- it really upsets her.)

We smuggle her peaches and plums *grins* because she doens't eat well (she's a bit daft and claims they're trying to poison her and refuses about half her meals.) and she LOVES it. The nurses say that she's getting everything she needs and get rather annoyed with us- but there's no reason for her not to have the fruit... and it makes her happy.

Happiness is SO important. Any little thing helps... anything to brighten a dull day :)

I went to see my mom on Monday of this week and took her two individuail fruit servings that do not need refrigerating. If we take any thing more than that the staff takes it away and says she can have it later but then they don't give it to her. Her clothes are not being taken by the residents, it is some of the staff but we can't find out which one it is doing it.
Axskyman, I had the same situation with my father when he passed away, I had some things I needed to tell him but he passed away before I could let him know how I felt about certain things that had happened in the family I never got to resolve my feelings toward him and I know that is why I never felt any real grief when he died, but it will be different with my mom, I know it.
Opera Ghost, we smuggle in some things too, like a small milkshake she wanted, a salad that she wanted. I also took her some slipper socks and 6 pairs of thick socks. She stays cold all the time. I took the time to put her intitals on everything with a permament marker.
I have to have some bloodwork done on Fri in advance of my visist to see my endocrinologist on Tues so I will go see her after I leave the doctor's office. I hope that I can take her some more things in the very near future that will help keep her warmer than she has been.
