10 years at S2K and a major announcement
Hi there.
I have been a mainstay at this site for 10 years now, having joined in March 2006, shortly after the historic 2005 hurricane season. We've gone through many quiet seasons and busy times. I've primarily focused on tropical posts lately with the rise of social media, particularly Twitter and Facebook, allowing me to post shorter-fused events more frequently.
While I wait for two other applications to come in and hopefully get good news from them, I was recently accepted to the Meteorology Master's degree program at Mississippi State University after several years in an undergraduate geography program which I graduate from very soon. It is possible I may decide to go into broadcast meteorology but I have some onstage issues that I need to deal with. A professional job is more suited for me, but those are harder to get, although regardless of what field I enter, I would love to continue to do research as well. We shall see.
It is exciting times for sure...to come from a message board to a major meteorology program regardless...

CONGRATULATIONS on a job well done!!! CONGRATULATIONS on 10 years with the best Tropical site on the web!!
If you go to Mississippi State you will probably be taught by a friend of mine by the name of Greg Nordstrom. When he isn't teaching or chasing on his own he works with Mark Sudduth at HurricaneTrack.com also. That us who I met him through.

Having watched you and your postings here since you started I have no doubt you will fly through the master's program. Honestly, I once thought you might have been a pro-met who didn't want any recognition. I fully expect I will be awarding the you the pro-met tag within a few years.

CrazyC83, I"m just now coming across your post from about 2 months ago and CONGRATS!!! Like yourself, i've been a member here for about 10 years and it's really cool to see someone take their passion for Weather and then eventually transition that, into their career. As you consider a broadcast or any other role for yourself, the best "life" advice I could give you would be to follow your heart and your gut, rather than a pragmatic decision based on what position occupations are most in need. Ultimately whatever your decision may be, the manner in which you succeed in any occupational role is what will define you as "professional". That, and you'll most likely succeed in any role where you're genuinely excited to start the beginning of each work week. Best of luck!!

Like others I've just found this topic too, I remember first seeing you on Wikipedia during the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season and I was impressed with your knowledge and tact on there. Its great your passion will be heading towards becoming a met and maybe get a career in it. Your style of analyzing and thoughts are right in my wheelhouse so I enjoy your contributions quite a bit.
I know several in Ontario who got their degree at Mississippi State University. I don't know if its because of their online courses but it seems to have something unique to offer. So if you did 2-4 years of the undergraduate geography and if you go to MS State, that's 4-6 years in total and you get a bachelors or masters? Does the geography count as something to it? If I ever get to that point I'll be looking at that route as geography for me is an extremely strong subject and would have likely gone into it.
