It is remarkable to give you an idea just how large and massive this gyre is, as the deep tropical moisture is funneling all the way from the Eastern Pacific north/northeast to Colin in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. Mother Nature's moisture pump truly in full effect, on satellite imagery.

Also you can see clearly how the upper trough over Northern Mexico continues to retrograde southwest for the time being, which is actually helping the cyclone ventilate and is keeping the decapitating shear away from Colin for the time being.

indeed extremely impressive and with no super El Nino around any longer how different things are as far as Western Caribbean and Gulf development possibilities as we are already seeing early this hurricane season.

Another view of the moisture and the Atlantic really looks quite wet compared to years past with SAL and all.The low in the Canada is strong!

I'm debating staying up to see what they find... considering the models are showing some intensification overnight.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the peak intensity bumped up to 50kts with latest trends in models and such.

My understanding is that this is a 48 hour event for the peninsula. I am sure that east coast will get their rain tomorrow and tomorrow night.

That convection over the Yucatan is very impressive, cloud tops are about as high as you will see them in this part of the world. There are some dark greys within the yellows in this image which you rarely see:

Outage map (Tampa electric): http://www.tampaelectric.com/residentia ... outagemap/ says 4500 are out. And that's just Tampa electric, not sure of the others.
