"Sittin' 'round The Pot Belly Stove"

#1 Postby azsnowman » Tue Sep 23, 2003 7:46 am

With the first day of autumn upon us, it's time to fire up the Ol' Pot Belly Stove! This Pot Belly Stove is entering into it's 3rd year of spreading the warmth of true wxbuddy friendship. Inside you'll find a huge ol' pot belly stove of days gone by....this particular stove came from the General Store in McNary, Arizona. There's always a pot of Cowboy Coffee brewin' sittin' on top of the stove along with a pot water for Miss Mary and Raine (Jackie) for Early Grey Tea. So...... come on in, take a load off, sit a spell, put your feet up and enjoy the glow of true friendship.

Good Morning!

Well.....here it is, the 3rd season of the Pot Belly Stove! For those of you who do not know what the PBS is all about, I started this thread over at TWC shortly after the dark days of Sept 11th. I came up with this idea from my childhood, there was an old General Store in McNary, Az., inside was the HUGE pot belly stove, it came from an old Round House (train station)........the old gentlemen from the sawmill would sit around the PBS, shoot the breeze, drink their coffee. It was a GREAT place to sit and listen to all the stories, it was a place of great friendship. The PBS has started so many life long friendships, it's opened the doors to new worlds, to new places.

So, pull up a chair, put your feet up and enjoy the warmth of true wxbuddy friendship!

Hi Dennis - humbled that you'd mention raine and I, thanks for the Earl Grey!!! Sure hits the spot.

And I appreciate that bit of history lesson too, although I knew the history of the PBS. It was quite nice of you to be so welcoming to newcomers who possibly would be confused about all this fuss about a Pot Belly Stove...

Welcome one and all!!!! Please join us!

Hey Guys, now how can you make that Earl Grey without me!!!!!!! Boy it's nice and warm here. What a great place to hang out. I brought my nuts over by the stove to roast them. Chestnuts!!!!! Dennis, get that mind out of the gutter.

I brought some snickerdoodles and I'll put on a fresh pot of coffee and brew a nice pot of Earl Grey.

Have a great day everyone.
I'll just sit back in this nice rocker for a while.

Love the Gnereal Store and Pot Belly Stove! I can't believe that I've been so fortunate to have been apart of PBS history for almost 3 years! It's so warm and cozy. We're not having summer heat, but we're not experiencing the crispness in the air that fall provides either - yet. It's only a matter of time!

Summer didn't provide us with the "beginning of the school year" heat wave as it normally does. Then again, it has not been a very normal year weatherwise for us. It's been in the 70's - slowly easing it's way to fall weather.

I'm looking forward to seeing new faces pop into the store to share in some great conversation, apple pie, brownies, penny candy, coffee or just take a nap by the pot belly stove. You may have a problem getting a spot around the stove though, there's lots of critters that will be taking up space around it too!

Hi stovians, I'm just dropping by on my lunch hour.
Here's a big box of jawbreakers that we can leave here for anyone who wants to break a tooth. I still didn't get those air conditioners taken out yet.
Pburgh, I think that I'll help myself to a snickerdoodle. Umm Yummy!

Here I am. Been part of the TWC crew since the day John Hope passed away. Hope this fall and winter (and spring) bring lots of rain and Santa Ana winds to my area. :)

Oh this warmth feels so very familiar. The Pot Belly Stove was started by Dennis when we were feeling so very cold after 9/11. We huddled around it and kept warm that entire winter and spring. We created very special friendships. Thanks Dennis. Hope all kinds of new friends gather here.

Now to the Earl Grey. Mary, this is Granny's recipe. Boil filtered water, pour the boiling water into a china teapot, swirl it around to get the pot hot, pour that water out, put 5 Earl Grey teabags or a teaball filled with Earl Grey loose tea into the china teapot, fill the pot with boiling water, cover with a tea cozy or a clean dish towel --------- now wait at least 10 minutes. Steep, steep, steep -That's the secret to really good tea!!!!!! I'ts gotta be served in a china cup and saucer. YUMMY

Ok, I've brought Granny's afgan in case anyone needs that extra warmth of love. We've always shared it around here when we feel cold and blue so help yourself!!!!

I think I'll sit by the rocker for awhile.

Take care my friends

Well, I see that we've moved back to the old neighborhood! I guess it's better to do it now than later when it would be more confusing.

We had some wicked storms go through the area this morning. There were several dopplar radar indicated tornado warnings in NJ also. One was reported south of Florence, where my brother lives! :o I don't think that it ever materialized, but I wouldn't have been surprised if one did drop down. Of course the storm hit my neighborhood just as I was leaving my house. I was finally able to out run it when I got about half way to work, but there were times I almost couldn't see.

Well, I hope everyone has had a good day and will have a wonderful evening!

Steph - thought I was seeing things!!! Where did our Community Forum go? It's not nice to confuse Miss Mary this way...... :-) !!!!

Karan - thanks for the tea instructions - my mom's from Scotland so she's tried getting me to do it that way. I have used tea pots on really cold mornings......tastes great that way. But I usually just pop a cup of tap in the microwave!!!! Oh my.....guess you're disappointed....LOL

So glad to be back with fellow Stovians! I am
definitely look forward to Karan's Earl Grey tea
(it's my favorite!), and, those boxes of KK's,
especially the chocolate-covered ones! :D
Granny's afghan will be a warm and comforting
blessing on gloomy days...thank you!

Steph, I saw those rotating storms in VA, then,
around you, this morning, while getting ready
for work! So glad that you're ok!

Coriolis, I appreciate the thought of the
jawbreakers, but, that darn TMJ won't let me
eat them...;)

Welcome back, friends, and, everyone have a great night!

OK, Breeze, you take this section, and I'll give this part to Mary, and here Pburgh, you take this. Steph, could you handle these sections? OK, now I'll be here in the rocking chair sipping tea, and I'll answer any questions....Uh-oh, (dodging flying jawbreakers)
