Re: WPAC: NEPARTAK - Typhoon (Is a SuperTyphoon)
Last few good satellite images before the sun sets in the West Pacific. .
http://www.cwb.gov.tw/V7e/observe/radar/
Still an amazingly beautiful but deadly storm , with currently 5kt shear or so and warm SST'S ,
Will check back on nepartak in the morning .

Lanyu, Orchid Island, already reporting wind gusts near 75mph, pressure of 993mb.
Looks like it has sucked in some dryer air on its eastern side?
Edit: Looking at the radar loop it might be just a radar glitch that makes it look like precip is lighter to the east of the eye.

A bit off topic. I just flew from Singapore to Taipei arrived 1 hour ago. Was excepting bumps instead very smooth flight. Now 19:55 PM Taipei time I am on another flight to US and about to depart. Windy and scattered showers here in Taipei as I write.

Looks like a weakening trend has commenced as land interaction is starting to take its toll. Eye is becoming cloud-filled as per latest satellite imagery.

Or it could be wind shear effect... it definitely has peaked although the eyewall remains very dangerous.

It's eye still well defined but it's CDO is somewhat contracting and convection has also cooled substantially. Maybe last minute intensification?

Lanyu just reported a wind gust of 105 mph within the past hour, close to 2" of rain already.

Most violent weather on the planet occurring around the eyewall and along the path of this monster Cat5...

WOW!
Updated!
Surface pressure data from National Taiwan University NTU2 buoy measured ~897 hPa pressure in Nepartak eye. Not sure of exact location...
I am not sure how reliable these buoy measurements are or if they are official in any way...but according to this link a bouy measured a pressure of below 900 hpa and wind speeds of above 145 kt (179 mph) one hour ago despite the fact that Nepartak didn't passed directly over it!

Holy!!! and that bouy measured that pressure while Nepartak was sporting a larger eye after the ERC, cant imagine how deep it was when during its peak (small eyed Nepartak)

I found some beach cams for Taiwan. Hoping for a daytime landfall so we can watch the action unfold...

897mb away from the eye which tells you how intense it was and deeper (lower) when it had that pinhole. Damn I wonder what recon would have found if we had one over here. Another loss to meteorology...Maybe stronger than Patricia. She got lucky she had recon...

The larger eye and larger size means that it probably was stronger pre-ERC even if the pressure was the same. I would go 155 kt for the intensity right now, with a pressure of 890mb.

Re: WPAC: NEPARTAK - Typhoon (Is a SuperTyphoon)
That 897 mb should be reliable and the buoy was very close to the center at that time. I would estimate a central pressure of 895 mb for 12Z and 890 mb for the second (large eye) peak. That would support at least 165 kt based on KZC wind-pressure relationship.
