Possible STS in North Central Atlantic

#1 Postby Hurricaneman » Sat Jul 09, 2016 11:05 pm

There is an area of convection around the center of a low at 41N 55W that seems to have taken some tropical characteristics and wouldn't be surprised if its added post season

Reminds me of the system in 2006 that ended up added, and I believe it formed in roughly the same area as well.

Copied from model thread:

TheAustinMan wrote:Not necessarily model-related, but I am a bit curious as to what this particular blob is. Probably very brief, but interesting to look at nonetheless. A brief look at the CIMSS vorticity products suggests that the area of convection is not really colocated with the nearby vorticity maxima.

And here's the associated ASCAT pass. Sorry about the text being on top of things; that's an artifact of how the ASCAT grid is divided:

actually think that system was 500mi farther west, but they both formed along a separation from a frontal boundary

Do they not add systems that are below storm-intensity?
