Re: Northeastern Gulf of Mexico

#461 Postby Steve » Thu Aug 11, 2016 11:33 pm

Big couple of days for NAM vs GFS. 00z through 72 hours has:

10ish inches southern and central Mississippi - NAM
20+ between Baton Rouge and Grand Isle - GFS
17"+ around Hammond and another 14+ around Gonzales per Channel 6 weather

Lots of flooding west of the river today and apparently 14 or so inches around the Pass in Gulfport, MS and also Laplace, LA We have some storms rotating in around the lake. So rain probably isn't over tonight b

Anyone else notice how the entire system looks like it has taken a hard turn south?

I don't think it's going south. I think some energy is just rotating around. The news channel I watched tonight showed thatncontinuing to happen through early Saturday with a general spin just north of the area.

I agree. BTR is getting it's share, that's for sure.

Just looked at the satellite images, and the intensity is expanding in size. Right over us!

This system is no longer in the NE Gulf of Mexico, so perhaps the topic title should be changed to "North Central Gulf of Mexico" or "NW Gulf of Mexico".

Well since the large shield of extremely heavy rain area is currently inland, you also technically could say that this is in the extreme Lower Mississippi River Valley region.

Most of the warnings and severe flooding is occuring over Hammond and Baton Rouge. Just a mess down into Louisiana along Interstate 12 and Interstate 10.

Also. I am still impressed by the upper level outflow this system continues to display on satellite imagery. The weak steering has caused all of the flooding from the Big Bend of Florida to Southern Louisiana. Such large, slow moving gyre. This no name system may end up being among the most talked about of this tropical season. Hope everyone in the Southern Louisiana region stays safe and heeds the warnings in that region.

12+" of rain. I left my home earlier and had to drive through neighbors yard to get out. I don't know if I have water in my home or not. My son is going to go check.

Good luck with that CajunMama. Nothing too bad here. It's been raining for hours, but it's drizzle here in town. North and West of the Lake continue to flood with flash flood warnings everywhere. Old Cyclone Mike hopefully isn't dealing with too terrible of conditions. He's close/fringe to the heaviest flooding. Channel 6 had storms rotating back through here overnight and tomorrow. We'll see how it goes but SC/SW and South LA look to be getting their ***es kicked today. Obviously something doesn't always have to be classified in order to mess things up.

That sucks. And right on time, you guys are now in a flash flood warning. Key is not to let anything mold and you should be okay. A few days in the sun will kill all of that for any effects you need to dry out. If your sheetrock gets wet, pull out/gut the bottom 4 foot panels and you will be okay with that as well. We, along with half of New Orleans, threw everything out after Katrina due to the hype around "toxic soup" and decontamination. That was even bikes and fishing poles cover with mildew. Eventually after my neighbor told me one of his friends extended a giant thank you to the neighborhood for giving him 5 of the best bikes he'd ever owned, I realized that bikes and fishing poles get wet all the time. Ugh. It can be next to impossible to get mildew and mold out of cloth material, but that's really the only thing. If you get some sunny days and things are wet, try to let them dry. Sorry, and hopefully it only ends up being a minor inconvenience.

Really sorry to hear that. I've never experienced flooding of my house but from the stories of others, I know it truly sucks. Even though the system causing this flooding is totally different from what caused the Mississippi River floods in '93, I keep remembering that event.

An area South of Greensburg, La is showing over 40 inches radar estimate. I had a color table that went higher but don't remember where to find it but dragging the curser through the area showed this.

That was from GRLevel3 but when I increased the color table range to show up to 50" nothing was added to the image even though hovering the mouse over the area brings up 40.8" . I looked around and No website shows rain even over 20" so must be a problem with grlevel3
