I was listening to a Christmas jazz cd tonight; and unlike in July, didn't feel foolish. With the early autumn chill in the air, you can definitely feel the change of seasons well underway...only 5 weeks until Halloween, 9 weeks to Thanksgiving, and only three months until Christmas.

It's difficult to believe, but there are now only 90 days until Christmas. It seems the older I become, the shorter the years seem to get (and dad says I ain't seen nothing yet

Miss Mary
I saw xmas items for sale on the HSN yesterday. I admit I got hooked in for a few minutes there.....just to see if there would be an item I'd want. It's not as if I don't have enough holiday decorating items....ha! I have too much.
I am proud of myself though, I have several gifts bought already and that was back in March! I vowed this year to be done by Thanksgiving and have my decorations out by then.

Miss Mary
For years I used to hear relatives, mostly other mom's, say they had to be done shopping by Thanksgiving. I thought they were a bit nuts.....LOL Until I had 2 back to back crazy, hectic, rush around at the last minute, Decembers...... So I've learned my lesson. Now my plan is to get my stuff done early: all the gifts I have to buy, wrap them, put them up on a shelf, decorate this house and put lights up outside, and then leave December for the fun stuff - the music concerts my kids are in, the last minute gift they forgot to buy for a friend at school, treats they want to bring in, baking goodies for neighbors, etc. I also used to come down with a whopper of a cold around Christmas Day too, from all the rushing around and not eating right. Another reason why I *know* I need to be done by Thanksgiving. And to be honest, I'm decorating the Monday-Wednesday just prior to Thanksgiving. Hubby can just croak for all I care! If it was up to him, we'd hang a wreath on the front door, buy a real tree around Dec. 20 (marked down, to save money), shop for gifts we have to, skip the neighbors, and we'd be all set. LOL
Just my opinion ya know.....I have notes on my December calendar of what needs to change this year, noted from last December! And I will hopefully let you all know Dec. 26th if it all worked out as according to plan.

wow Beer thats a load of lights!:o It must look really beautiful. Lights are my fav christmass decoration... I could live without all the other stuff, but not withouth the lights.. there is just something magical about thousands of twinkling lights.
My dream is to have a white christmas with lots of lights and a REAL christmas tree. Guess that wont be happening anytime soon seeing as my husband wont move out of FLORIDA!!! White beach sand just does not do the trick

Yeah! I am going to San Diego, California for Christmas this year! While there, we are going to visit a place called Big Bear which I'm told SHOULD have snow
Since I was born and raised in SoFla, this is exciting news! I have only seen snow on the ground a few times (in Smokey Mtns)but I have never seen it actually snow. Like snowflakes dropping from the sky. One time in Smokey Mtns I stood under this tree that was full of snow and my husband shook the tree so it "snowed" on me. This is what I said, no kidding, "Wow, snow is wet". Everybody laughed at me!
Anyway, I'm from Florida so what did they expect

I'm more than half done with my Christmas shopping. Yipee! Right now is an awesome time to shop, they are marking so much stuff down (clearance prices!!!) to make room for the Christmas merchandise. I've been hitting up Target, Walmart, and Kmart now on a weekly basis to see what else they've marked down.
At Target this morning, I bought my 9 year old niece 1 dress, 1 pair of pants, and 3 shirts for $15 total!!!! Do I need to say anymore?

I forgot to take pictures of the 2,000 I added last year so I will have to do an update after Thanksgiving. They get turned on after dinner on turkey day and I take them down on New Years Day.

That means theres less time than that to figgure out where in gods name we're going to be putting the stupid christmas tree!!! *beats head on wall repeatedly* Last year it was easy... we had less furniture. Now that we've added a piano, hutch, giant cabinet (6 foot), and a sea chest the size of 2 stacked coffins... (all inherited when MIL passed away) we barely have room for US muchless a tree....
Guess it's going to be a small tree *scrathes head*

'Tis the season to be jolly" - yeah, right. I'll start to get jolly on December 26th.
I work for one the large television shopping channels and we had one of our 24 hour holiday shopping events today. (No, Miss Mary, not HSN but the other one). This is what we gear up for all year long.
For an economy that is supposedly in a slump, people are sure spending money. I don't know what THEY do for a living but I know I can't afford to spend the money I saw spent today. Or is everyone just saying the heck with it - I'll max out my credit cards and spend the rest of year worrying about it?
